πŸ“· Photo Album

Since 3.1.0 Β· Just for fun Β· In the app: System β†’ Photo Album, and System β†’ Help β†’ Photo Album

Your webcam picture, drawn entirely in text characters, live. There's no AI involved: the picture is shrunk to a grid, each cell's brightness picks a character, and the rounding left over is passed to its neighbours so the shading stays smooth (dithering). It all happens in your browser.

Using it

Open System β†’ Photo Album and press Start. The art follows you as you move. Press Capture when you like it, then Save it to your album, Copy it as text, or Download it as a text file or a PNG.

  • The camera needs a secure address. Browsers only switch a camera on over https (or localhost). Over plain http the page says so, and Upload still works with any picture from your device.
  • Flip switches between front and back cameras on a phone or tablet.
  • The camera switches off the moment you press Capture; Retake switches it back on.

Styles and screens

Style
Braille Each character is a 2Γ—4 grid of dots β€” eight times the detail. The sharpest likeness.
Classic Seventy characters from . to @, the way ASCII art has always been done.
Blocks Shade characters, light to solid. Chunky and bold.

Screens: Green screen and Amber for an old terminal, Paper for dark ink on white, Colour to keep the picture's real colours. Copy and the text file carry only the characters; colour is kept in the album and the PNG.

Privacy

Your photo never leaves your browser. Only the finished art is sent to FreeITSM, and only when you press Save. Your album is yours alone β€” nobody else, administrators included, sees it. If your analyst account is deleted, its album goes with it.
