md5sum, sha1sum, sha256sum, b3sum... one program, the same output style.

Quick summary

hash calculates the hash of files/folders with an md5sum/sha1sum-like output. Default: SHA-1 (reliable, but not very fast). For duplicates and GLOBAL hashes see sum.

Power user usage

  • -ssd N threads (SSD/NVMe, not spinning drives); -mm memory mapped files
  • -forcezfs include .zfs (default: skip); -715 work as 7.15
  • -verbose more infos; -stdout, -pakka do not mess the output; -noeta no ETA
  • -last only the last file; -norecursion no recursion
  • -franzhash franzhash on a single file, multithread (-frugal: single thread)
  • any hash switch: -xxh3, -sha256, -blake3...

Lo spiegone

Dispatched as command 9 to hasha().

Real-world examples

SHA-1 of all files, then multithread

zpaqfranz hash z:\knb
zpaqfranz hash z:\knb -ssd

XXH3 multithread; SHA-256 to a file

zpaqfranz hash z:\knb -ssd -xxh3
zpaqfranz hash z:\knb -ssd -sha256 -stdout -out 1.txt

franzhash, 4 parts on 4 threads, then on 1 thread

zpaqfranz hash z:\pippo.zpaq -franzhash -blake3 -t4
zpaqfranz hash z:\pippo.zpaq -franzhash -blake3 -t4 -frugal

Only the files in c:\nz

zpaqfranz hash c:\nz -norecursion
