FAQ

Is Drama Studio free?

Yes. Drama Studio is free and open source under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPL-3.0-only). You can use it for any project, share it and change it. If you share a changed version, it must stay under the same license and come with its source, and it needs its own name: "Drama Studio" and the logo stay with the project. Videos you make are yours; the license covers the app, not your work. AI models and sites you use have their own terms, so check them before commercial use.

Do I need ComfyUI or a strong graphics card?

No, not for editing. Editing, captions, subtitles, sound, export and the AI Assistant work without ComfyUI. You need ComfyUI and a capable NVIDIA card only for AI generation on your own computer. Without one, use cloud models with credits, or AI websites through Drama Studio Companion. See AI Generation.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC". Is it safe?

Release builds are not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen does not recognise the publisher. If you downloaded the file from the official releases page, click More info › Run anyway. Never run a "Drama Studio" installer from anywhere else.

Is there a Mac version?

Mac downloads return once macOS code signing is set up. Until then you can build it from source on a Mac.

Where are my files saved?

On your own computer, inside your project folder, including results from cloud AI. See Getting Started.

Which AI can the Assistant use?

The Assistant (top right) can use your Claude or ChatGPT subscription through Claude Code or Codex signed in on your PC (no API key), a free local model with Ollama or LM Studio, or an API key for Claude, OpenAI or DeepSeek. Click the model name under Assistant to switch. Every edit it suggests is a preview you apply yourself.

Can other AI agents edit my project?

Yes. Drama Studio has an MCP server with 100+ tools for agents such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. It is off by default; connections need you to switch it on and use a private token. See docs/MCP.md.

How do I update?

See Updates.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?

In the app (version 0.6.7 and later), click Report a bug at the top, next to Help. Describe what happened, and Drama Studio opens a filled-in issue on GitHub for you to check and submit (you need a free GitHub account). You can also tell us on Discord, open an issue yourself, or use Settings › Send Feedback. Report security problems privately, as described in the security policy, never in a public issue.
