Windows SDK

Microsoft no longer provides a standalone DirectX SDK. Instead, all modern DirectX components are integrated directly into the core Windows SDK.

Modern DevelopmentModern DirectX development relies strictly on the Windows 10/11 SDK.

  • DirectX 12 Agility SDK: Allows developers to access the latest DirectX 12 graphics features, Ray Tracing, and API improvements independently of Windows OS updates. You can pull the Agility SDK via NuGet or view samples on the NVIDIA DirectX Developer Page.

  • DirectX 11 & Windows SDK: The core headers and libraries for DirectX 11 are pre-bundled with Visual Studio and the Windows SDK. The standalone D3DX libraries have been deprecated and replaced by modern tools like DirectXMath and DirectXTK.
