UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter)

  • Requires only 3 lines (TX for transmit, RX for receive and GND)
  • full-duplex
  • No Clock Signal Needed
  • Built-in Error Checking: It uses optional parity bits to help verify data integrity during transmission.
  • a point-to-point topology
  • keep 5V TTL UART cables under 5 to 30 meters. maximum cable run depends on the data transfer rate (baud rate)
  • speed - 1 Mbps to 15 Mbps ?
  • 3.3V, 5V, +/-15V, +/-5V Logic, The three most common voltage implementations are TTL/CMOS, RS-232, and RS-485.
