Slimefun in a Nutshell
Slimefun turns a normal Minecraft server into something much closer to a technology-and-magic modpack without requiring players to install a client mod.
Slimefun Legacy keeps that classic idea alive on modern Paper servers while preserving familiar gameplay, item identities, addon entry points, saved-world behavior and the character of Slimefun 4 wherever practical.
A Slimefun server can include:
- ⚒️ custom crafting and processing machines
- ⚡ generators, capacitors and energy networks
- 📦 automated Cargo item transport
- ☢️ nuclear materials and reactors
- 🤖 programmable Androids
- 🛰️ GPS, GEO scanning and teleportation systems
- 🎒 upgradeable backpacks and portable storage
- 🪄 magical items, runes, altars and gadgets
- 🛠️ specialized tools and equipment
- 🧱 industrial and utility blocks
- 🔌 hundreds or thousands of additional items through addons
The exact content available on a server depends on its configuration and installed addons. The in-game Slimefun Guide is the authority for that server.
A typical Slimefun journey looks like this:
- Open the Slimefun Guide and learn the basic crafting stations.
- Process vanilla resources into dusts, ingots, alloys and technical components.
- Unlock researches and more advanced recipes.
- Replace manual multiblocks with electric machines.
- Build generation and energy storage.
- Automate production with Cargo networks.
- Expand into GPS, GEO resources, reactors, Androids and advanced equipment.
- Install compatible addons to extend the endgame almost indefinitely.
Slimefun is intentionally broad. You do not need to master every category at once.
The original Slimefun project began with mrCookieSlime in 2013 with a simple goal: make Bukkit servers feel like modpacks without forcing players to install mods.
Over the following years Slimefun grew through Slimefun 2, Slimefun 3 and finally Slimefun 4, adding research, machines, electrical systems, Cargo, GPS, reactors, programmable Androids, backpacks and a large addon ecosystem.
Slimefun 4 later became a major community-maintained open-source project with contributions from many developers, addon authors, testers, translators, wiki writers and server communities.
Slimefun Legacy is a downstream community continuation. It does not claim ownership of that history. Its goal is to preserve the experience and keep it practical on current server software.
Slimefun Legacy focuses on:
- modern Paper support
- English-first operation
- production-server stability
- addon compatibility preservation
- runtime and dependency diagnostics
- safer upgrades and recovery tooling
- Enhanced Guide improvements
- compatibility gates before release
- conservative modernization rather than unnecessary gameplay rewrites
