Compatibility: The Steam Frame can run the Linux ARM64 build of the game directly on the headset.
- Because of an incompatibility with the current game engine version (Unreal Engine 5.4.4, see Unreal Engine on Steam Frame), the game does not detect the HMD and runs in spectator mode on the headset. Better native support is planned for the v0.4.8 update. In the meantime, stream the game from a PC instead (see Getting Started).
- Since the game is not on Steam, this procedure requires enabling Developer Mode on the headset and using the free SteamOS Devkit Client on a PC to install it.
If you know a better solution that avoids Developer Mode, feel free to share it.
- On your PC, download the game from the Game Site.
Be careful to download the Linux ARM64 game build, not the Linux x64 build, the Windows build, or the dedicated server.
- Extract the content of the Zip file.
The extracted content is the game folder. Remember where you extracted it; you will need this folder in the next steps.
- Put on your headset and go to Steam Settings -> System, then enable Developer Mode.
- Go to Steam Settings -> Developer and select Pair new host. Leave this screen open.
- In Steam on your PC, search for and install the free SteamOS Devkit Client (available for Windows and Linux).
- Launch it from your Steam Library.
- In the Devkits tab, click Register next to your Steam Frame, then confirm the pairing on the headset.
- In the SteamOS Devkit Client, click Title Upload and fill in the fields:
-
Name:
Macro_Micro_Vr_Service - Local Folder: the extracted game folder.
-
Start Command:
MacroMicroVRService-Arm64.sh - Runtime: Not specified
-
Name:
- Click Upload and wait for the transfer to finish. The game is about 10 GB, so this can take a while depending on your network.
- Click Start in the SteamOS Devkit Client to launch the game on the headset.
- The game is also added to your Steam Library on the headset, under Library -> Non-Steam -> Devkit Game: Macro_Micro_Vr_Service. You can launch it from there at any time, without the PC.
See the official Steam Frame devkit guide for more details.
- Make sure the PC and the headset are on the same network.
- Make sure Developer Mode is enabled and that the Pair new host screen is open on the headset.
- In the Devkit Client, use Connect to devkit by IP and enter
frame(or the hostname you set in Steam Settings -> System -> Hostname).
If the problem persists, check the Common Issues and Fixes page or ask for help in the Discord.
