Islandora Camp Europe feedback

  • previous VMs on islandora.ca - People at Islandora Camp would like earlier versions of the VM available. Melissa to publicize new links to old vms and add disclaimer that VMs are not for production/server installations. Default passwords for the VM should be changed (see point below). Should take tomcat password right out - it it out? Ask Charles about current VM. Add to documentation?

  • Tomcat

  • What is the tomcat password on the VM?

  • Installations with included tomcat at UPEI. Sysadmin at camp noted it's hard to upgrade that tomcat. But if you use the OS-specific tomcat, it is much easier to update and fix security holes that appear. Documentation for this is required. Recommend or at least raise the issue of using included versus os-specified Tomcat. What is the repo in the Islandora project? - it's a total package including tomcat, solr, etc. that is currently being used for testing. Jenkins, Travis. Travis is up at https://travis-ci.org/Islandora/islandora/pull_requests - can be publicized. Tests still be written. A work in progress. (Melissa) dgi contribution to be acknowledged. Run tweet past David.

  • Currency in the stack

  • Another feedback point: Current versions of software being used? Melissa to double-check documentation to make sure we're communicating what we are currently supporting. The Islandora project aims to integrate newest versions of software packages where possible. The documentation will always describe the most recent tested version. Internally, we will also keep an eye out for contributors/implementers that are utilizing newer versions successfully. When these things come up we should find a way to update the docs and respond on the list. "It fails x, x, and x...if the community wants to do further fixing"...

  • Mark to compose a response to the stack exchange issue on the list. Melissa to tweet that it exists. Tweets could also highlight patches to software. Kirsta, Melissa, Mark to work on building knowledge base on islandora.ca.

  • Admin Dashboard - tracking connections to contributed software, providing Fedora statistics. Drupal module based on itql. Parsing output from queries.

  • Todo: Look at how we can create a central location for linking to experimental, unsubmitted code, or code that may not yet meet Islandora coding standards.

  • Image annotation module: Danny had reviewed code prior to leaving and created a doc. DGI needs for a client project. Not being focused on as a stand alone module. Danny's notes can be shared with anybody at UPEI interested in working on the module as a stand alone module. Perhaps Image annotation module can be part of the next minor release. David has sent along notes.

  • The next minor release will likely happen before OR, or will coincide with the event.

  • Printed manuals to be set up in store.

  • 35$ for book + shipping & handling

  • Islandora Camp - would like more hands on work. Can prototype a tutorial approach for July.

Requirements:

  • Laptop with recent VM installed

Repo managers and librarians group and the back-end/developers group.
