Old Business

Interest Groups

Islandora Camp updates

New Business

  • Islandora 7.x-2.x Committers

    • Nick: reviewed previous committers formalization. Just 3 members in 2.x

    • Will & Rosemary: thought last committers proposal was for all Islandora not 1.x specific.

    • Nick: different stack, DGI is a conflict wants to close loop in next stack. Wants to use mentoring process from scratch.

    • Rosemary: how would be check and balance DGI?

    • Nick: Committers from different org would handle it to prevent conflict of interest.

    • Will: Has there been issues?

    • Nick: maybe, lets fix this before it is bad. Melissa seconded

    • Mark J: timelines would be slowed. Will seconded.

    • Nick: there is a different expertise for the new stack

    • David: this is what we did for the F4.

    • Donald: a tech lead would limit the slowdown. Mark seconded

    • Will: Donald's point is wishful. Mark seconded.

    • Melissa: Fork Mark, Will: has troubles.

    • Nick: More committers will lower the slow down.

    • Will: Worried that we are running people through the wringers a second time for no reason. People have behaved responsibly they can be trusted to do so on 2.x as well.

    • Nick: It's an entirely new code base. Expressed concern about qualifications of existing commiters.

    • David: explained their process: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!search/fedora$20committers/fedora-tech/bmYPhvSrc-E/s53rxKkIBlYJ

    • Mark: We do not require code base knowledge. Nick reviewed and confirmed.

    • Nick: The community is different.

    • Will: This will slow down community involvement. Nick I don't think so. Rosemary not sure wants to make sure that messaging is clear. Melissa agrees.

    • Will: Using a new group to foster a change in process is less than transparent.

    • Nick, Melissa, Mark; it's an opportunity to make a clean break.

    • Mark J: The list of requirements does not say code knowledge is necessary. Will: I think this is intentional. Melissa & Nick agree. We are tying to encourage a range of different skill sets.

    • Donald: Should we move to a single committer. Melisa & David disagree many hands make light (and stronger) work.

    • Nick: Tech lead would be mostly facilitator.

    • Carell: In the old stack could discoverygarden commit code but weren't committers? Melissa explained details of 2.x committers and some project history.

    • Mark J & Nick & Will: the concerns over organizations merging their own commits are related the 2.x GitHub workflow, but not to the proposed method for nominating new 2.x committers. Nick thinks the private list may be a good place to discuss the latter.

    • Rosemary: This will slowdown the 2.x dev. Nick: But it will make it more sustainable, better quality and transparent.

    • Melissa: Can we expand the group?

    • Question was asked about who?

    • Nick: There are some more people that were (names redacted because the haven't been contacted) That would likely have nominations in the near future.

    • Eric: For this project, do we need to limit the approval of new committers to existing committers or should we have a check and balance by allowing the road map committee some level input/approval?

    • Response lost due to tech.

    • Mark: People on this call vote for the proposal. If it passes, Nick, in good faith, then nominates the people he mentioned a few minutes ago.

      • 1: Carell, Rosemary, Mark B, David, Caleb, Mark J, Rosemary
      • 0: William, Erick, Nick
    • Will: Please review my notes for completeness.

    • Melissa: Hit limit today on google hangouts. Will use Skype in the future.
