Services

Many apps need something next to their own code: Laravel Herd for PHP, Docker, or a database. Those are services. Coodoo works with them, so your app starts and the agents use the right tools.

Which services there are

Built in are:

Service What Coodoo does with it
Laravel Herd Uses Herd's PHP and Composer. Your app is at http://projectname.test.
Docker Runs docker compose up -d before your app starts, and stops it again when you quit Coodoo.
MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis Checks that the database answers (port 3306, 5432 or 6379). It runs in Herd Pro, DBngin or Docker.

Under Settings → Services you see which were found on this computer and whether they run.

Another port

Does Herd or your database use another port, for example Herd on 8080 or MySQL on 3307? In Settings → Services, click the pencil next to the service and fill in the port. Coodoo then checks that port to see whether the service runs, and uses it in the address (http://projectname.test:8080) and in the suggestions for .env. With Back to … you put the usual port back.

Choosing a service for your project

The App panel has a Services line. There you see:

  • which services the project uses, with a dot: green = running, yellow = stopped, red = not found;
  • services Coodoo suggests, with a +. For example Herd for a Laravel project, or Docker when there's a docker-compose.yml. Click one to choose it.

With Choose… you turn services on or off.

What happens then

  • Start app first starts the services and waits until they answer. With Herd the app doesn't need to start itself: Coodoo opens the address right away.
  • The agents use the service's tools and know what's there. So they don't install PHP or a database themselves.
  • Your app's settings get suggestions, such as APP_URL, DB_HOST and DB_PORT. With Use you take them over.
  • Commands may also use the service's programs, such as herd link or docker compose up -d. Only starting, stopping and looking; never removing anything.

Your own service

Using something else, such as DBngin, MAMP or your own script? In Settings → Services, click Add your own service and fill in what you know:

  • Folder with programs: goes first on PATH, for the agents and your app;
  • Start and Stop: commands in the project folder ({name} is the project folder's name);
  • Port to check: Coodoo waits until it answers;
  • Your app's address, Suggestions for .env and What the agents should know.

A service can never run anything as administrator (sudo).
