Generate Target
Step 1 creates the list of colour patches for this session. The list is a .ti1 file in your working folder.
Think of this step as naming the work and deciding how large the chart will be. Nothing is printed yet.
- RGB (print drivers). Use this when the printer driver takes RGB, which is the usual case for desktop inkjets.
- CMYK (RIP output). Use this when you send CMYK files to a RIP rather than RGB to a desktop driver.
If you apply a preset, this choice must match the preset. A mismatch blocks a media recipe from saving until you fix it.
Choose a patch-count preset or set the numbers yourself.
White patches and Black patches are extra patches on top of the main set. They help the profile describe paper white and maximum ink.
More patches give the profile more to learn from and give you more pages to print and measure. A first test on unknown paper can stay at a few hundred patches. A profile you will print photographs with is worth a longer chart if you can measure it carefully.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Browse | Save panel for the new .ti1. The file name without the extension becomes the basename for every later file. |
| Working Dir | Folder for this session. Required. All later files for this basename go here. |
| Open Existing | Resume from an existing .ti1 or .ti2. A .ti2 also needs its matching .ti1 in the same folder. |
| Import Dataset | Skip printing and measuring. Open an already measured file (.ti3, .txt, .cgats, or .csv). Step 4 unlocks from a cleaned-up .ti3. |
The app will not invent a name such as untitled. Empty basename or empty folder is rejected.
A disclosure holds extra chart-generation options: a preconditioning profile, a high-quality full-spread option, and the algorithm used to place patches.
Leave these on the preset defaults unless you have a reason to change them. They do not replace a good instrument or dry paper.
The large button runs the generator. While it runs the label reads Generating. On success, step 2 unlocks.
On failure, the banner shows the reason. An old .ti1 is not replaced with an empty file.
- A
.ti1in the folder unlocks step 2. - A
.ti2plus its.ti1lets you continue to step 3. A banner says Resumed from .ti2. - A
.ti2without its.ti1is refused (Cannot resume). - Import Dataset with a measured file unlocks step 4. You should not reprint that dataset.
If you change patch counts after a .ti1 already exists, generate again. The old chart pages will not match the new list.
