Measure Chart

Step 3 reads the printed sheets with a spectrophotometer and writes a .ti3 measurement file.

This is the step that takes the most care. A clean instrument and dry paper matter more than any setting on step 4.

Supported instruments

ICCery can use devices the bundled tools recognise, including:

  • i1 Pro, i1 Pro 2, and i1 Pro 3
  • ColorMunki
  • SpyderPrint
  • SpectroScan
  • DTP20, DTP22, DTP41, DTP51
  • XY tables such as SpectroScan and i1iO

Choose the instrument

  • The circular refresh control asks the computer what is plugged in.
  • Auto (first available port) is the usual choice when only one device is attached.
  • A named port is for the case where two devices are attached and you need a specific one.

A line under the menu explains errors: nothing found, permission denied, and similar.

XY table workflow selected appears for a table device. The buttons then follow Place, Align, Scan, and Remove rather than a handheld trigger. Spot Read is not the place for that dance. Stay on this step.

The default instrument in Settings fills this menu when that device is plugged in. It does not change the instrument code printed on the chart in step 2. Those two ideas are separate on purpose.

Start a reading

  1. Click Start Read.
  2. When the status asks for the calibration tile, put the instrument on its white reference and click Calibrate.
  3. Follow the status line for each strip or patch. Click Trigger when the tool is waiting for a press.
  4. On a table, use the extra chips as they light: place the sheet, align, scan, then remove the sheet when asked.

Always available while a reading is running:

  • Retry after an error, once you have fixed what the status described.
  • Done and Save when the chart is complete, or when you are ending a partial sheet on purpose.
  • Cancel, which asks the tool to stop and then ends it if it does not.

Do not unplug the instrument in the middle of a strip. Cancel first.

Swatches

Patches fill in as rows arrive. You see a running average colour difference, a maximum, and a patch count. The colours use the good and warning thresholds from Settings. These numbers compare each measured patch with the value the chart expected. They are not the same report you get on step 5 after the profile exists.

A second sheet

After a successful save you can:

  • Measure Another Sheet, for a second print of the same target.
  • Finish and Average, which merges the passes into the one .ti3 file later steps use.

Two sheets help when the first pass is noisy. They do not fix a wet print or a driver that still manages colour.

When step 4 unlocks

When the folder contains a measurement file for this basename. An imported dataset may already have that file. In that case you should not reprint and remeasure unless you intend to replace the import.
