Spot Read

Spot Read takes one colour reading at a time from a piece of paper. Use it to check that the instrument works, to compare two scraps of paper, or to see whether a patch has dried.

It is not the full chart measurement. Step 3 still does that. The two modes cannot run at once. Spot Read is disabled while a chart reading is in progress. Close the sheet or click Stop before you start step 3.

You need a working folder from step 1. You do not need a printed chart.

If the tools are missing

The sheet may say spotread sidecar missing. That means this copy of ICCery was built without its measuring tools. Reinstall a complete copy of the app. There is no hidden fallback.

Instrument

Same idea as step 3:

  • Refresh the list if it is empty.
  • Auto, or a named port.
  • Also set as default instrument writes the choice to Settings. It does not change the instrument printed on the chart in step 2.

If Settings already has a default and that device is unplugged, you see Saved default instrument not present. The menu stays on Auto so you can pick whatever is attached.

XY tables belong on step 3. Spot Read will say so and still measure as a handheld reflective probe.

The i1 Pro 2 LED option lives in Settings, not on this sheet.

Take readings

  1. Click Start. The instrument opens.
  2. Click Calibrate when the status asks for the white tile.
  3. Place the instrument on the patch and click Read.
  4. Click Stop when you are finished.

Closing the sheet also stops the instrument.

Last sample

You see:

  • L, a, and b (D50)
  • XYZ when the tool reports it
  • A colour swatch
  • Delta E 00 against the previous sample. Hidden on the first reading, because there is nothing to compare yet.

The swatch and the delta E colour use the same good and warning thresholds as Settings.

Implausible L appears if L is outside 0 to 100. The number is still shown. It is not clipped.

History

The sheet keeps the last fifty readings until you close it. Closing clears them. They are not written to the working folder unless you export.

  • Click a row to put that sample back in the last-sample area. This does not trigger the instrument.
  • Copy Lab puts text such as 50.0 1.2 -3.4 on the clipboard.
  • Export CSV writes a file with columns for time, L, a, b, delta E 00, instrument, and port.

Copy Lab and Export stay off when there are no rows.
