Verify and Install

Step 5 checks the new profile against the measurements and can copy it into ColorSync.

Verify Profile

This compares what the profile predicts with what you measured on the chart. The result is two numbers in delta E 00 (CIEDE2000):

• Average. Typical error across the chart.
• Maximum. The worst patch.

Status uses the thresholds in Settings:

• Good when the average is at or under Good delta E (2.0 unless you change it).
• Warning when it is above Good and at or under Warning delta E (5.0 unless you change it).
• Fail when it is above Warning.

Read this as "does the profile describe the chart we measured?", not "does a print match the display". Display match also depends on the monitor and on the profile you assign in the print dialog.

View Gamut opens the same 3D window as the sidebar button, with this profile loaded when a gamut file exists.

Install Profile

Copies the ICC into a ColorSync folder.

• User library. ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles. This is the default and does not need an administrator password.
• System library. /Library/ColorSync/Profiles. Needs an administrator password. Use this when other accounts on the Mac must see the same file.

Settings controls two extras:

• Ask before overwriting a profile. If a file with that name already exists you get Overwrite, Rename, or Cancel.
• Open ColorSync after install. Opens ColorSync Utility so you can see the file in the list.

Install does not select the profile for a printer queue. When you print a photograph, choose this profile in the print dialog or the driver's colour menu.

History and drift

Each verify can be stored in a small history table for this Mac.

• Filter the list if it grows.
• Export CSV if you want the numbers in a spreadsheet.
• Clear removes the history. It does not delete the ICC or the .ti3.

Use history to see whether a reprint of the same paper is moving, not as a second copy of the measurements.

After install

Print a known image through the new profile, with the same paper and with driver colour management handled the way you planned (usually "let the application manage colour" plus this ICC). If that print is wrong but verification was good, the problem is usually the print path, not the chart.
