Lay Out and Print
Step 2 turns the patch list into printable pages and sends those pages to the printer without macOS colour matching.
You leave this step with a .ti2 file, TIFF images of each page, and physical sheets in your hand.
The warning at the top of the page is the most important control on it, and it is not a control ICCery can flip for you.
In the printer driver, set colour to Off, No Color Adjustment, or Application Managed. If you leave the driver's own photo modes on, the chart is already "corrected" before you measure it. The profile you build will then try to undo a correction you cannot see.
Do this once per driver and check it again when the driver updates.
Set these before you click Create Layout:
- Page size, including a custom width and height in millimetres if you need a size the list does not have.
- TIFF bit depth. 8-bit is the usual choice. 16-bit produces larger files.
- Instrument. This is the device that will read the chart later. It is written onto the chart so the measuring step knows the patch layout. It is not the USB port you pick on step 3. A default instrument in Settings does not change this menu.
- Seed. Leave the default unless you are recreating a chart exactly.
- Chart label. Printed on the sheet so you can tell stacks apart when several papers sit on the bench.
Create Layout builds the pages. Thumbnails appear with a patch count on each page. A .ti2 file is written next to the .ti1.
If layout fails you stay on step 2. The banner says printtarg failed and there are no thumbnails. Fix the setting the message points at and try again.
- Choose the printer queue. This is the same name you see in System Settings.
- Portrait or Landscape. Match how the paper sits in the tray.
- Print on a single page, or use the print-all control when you have several pages.
ICCery sends the pages so ColorSync does not convert them on the way to the queue. It does not use a raw-only bypass that would ignore the page size you chose.
Watch the first sheet. If the patches look like a finished photograph instead of a flat test chart, stop and fix the driver.
Wait before you measure. Dye ink on gloss is often ready sooner than pigment on heavy rag. If the first measurements jump around, the sheet may still be wet. Print a second copy rather than forcing a wet one through the instrument.
This button is enabled once the .ti2 exists. Click it when the paper is dry and you are ready to measure. Step 3 will not run without that file.
You can leave the thumbnails and come back later. Open Existing on step 1, or open the project, and the app will find the .ti2 again.
