FAQ

Where do I find chili?

Chili doesn't grow in the wild. An expert (level 4) farmer sells it: 3 chili for 3 emeralds. Put one chili into a Herb Planter and it keeps producing more, so you only need to buy it once. Cinnamon works the same way, except it can't be planted; farmers are its only source.

In 1.6 the farmer trades were missing on Minecraft 1.21.11, 1.21.1 and 1.20.1. Since 2.0.0 they are there on every version.

Where do I get lettuce seeds?

Lettuce seeds don't drop from grass. Look in village food chests (35 %) or buy them from a novice farmer. See Ingredient Sources.

My rice doesn't grow.

Rice needs a paddy: a water source exactly one block deep, with dirt, grass, mud or farmland under it. Plant the seeds by aiming at the ground under the water. Rice on dry farmland from older versions stops growing; replant it. See Farming.

The cooking pot does nothing.

Check three things: there's a heat source directly below it, it has water if the recipe needs it, and the output slot isn't full. The cookbook in the pot screen shows every recipe with its ingredients.

I get a different dish than expected from the pot.

The pot takes the recipe that uses the most of your ingredients. If a simpler recipe comes out, one ingredient of the bigger recipe is probably missing, or the spice is the raw version instead of the ground one.

Why do I get nausea after drinking?

That was untreated water: a normal water bottle, river water in a canteen, or a sip by hand. Boil bottles in the cooking pot, use a rain collector or a sink for clean water. See Water and Hydration.

Food fills me up less than it should.

That is the diet system. You ate the same food too often in your last meals. Eat something else for a while and it goes back to normal. The tooltip shows the current value.

Can I turn off thirst or the diet?

Yes. Both are options in config/expandedfoodsystem.properties, see Configuration. On a server, only the server file counts.

Forge 26.2 says my world uses experimental features.

That warning comes from Forge 26.2 itself. It marks all data from mods (like the farmer trades and the salt ore) as experimental. The world is fine; confirm once and Forge remembers it for that world.

Does it work with other food mods?

It should. Expanded Foodsystem doesn't replace vanilla food or change other mods' items. The diet system counts every food, including food from other mods.
