HUD

The HUD shows your companions while you play: portrait, name, level, XP, health and small icons for bleeding, infection and wounded. Style, colors, size and position are up to you.

The companion HUD

The HUD hides together with the rest of the HUD when you press F1.

The HUD editor

Open the overview with J and click HUD & Theme. Every change is saved and shown right away, and the HUD is drawn behind the editor as a live preview. Summon a companion first to see it.

At the bottom of every tab:

  • Move with mouse hides the editor so you can drag the HUD anywhere on the screen. See Moving the HUD.
  • Reset HUD puts every HUD setting back to its default. Click it twice; your menu theme stays.
  • Done goes back to the overview.

Position

HUD editor, Position tab
  • HUD: shown / hidden
  • All companions: show every companion that is out, or only the selected one.
  • Anchor: the spot on the screen the HUD sticks to – top left, top center, top right, left, right, bottom left, bottom center or bottom right. Choosing an anchor resets the offset.
  • Fine position: the arrows move the HUD 5 pixels from its anchor; ◎ sets the offset back to 0.
  • Size: 50 % to 200 %.
  • Max shown: the most companions shown at once, 1 to 10. The selected companion always comes first.
  • Spacing: gap between two companions, 0 to 20 pixels.
  • Stack: companions top to bottom (vertical) or side by side.

Design

HUD editor, Design tab
  • Style
    • Full: a card with portrait, name, level, XP bar and health bar.
    • Compact: a slim bar with level, name and health.
    • Icons: a small tile with the portrait, level and a health bar – looks best side by side.
  • Frame: Ornate (the silver and obsidian frame of the menus), Simple (a thin line in the accent color) or None.
  • Background opacity: 0 % to 100 %. Only the frame and background fade; text and bars stay solid. Text gets a shadow when the frame is off or the background is lighter than 60 %.
  • Show: switch single parts on or off – model, name, level, XP bar, numbers under the bars, status icons. The Full card gets smaller when you hide parts.

Colors

HUD editor, Colors tab
  • Menu theme: Blue, Red, Green, Purple, Amber or Slate for every companion screen.
  • HUD theme: Menu uses the menu theme; any other theme colors only the HUD.
  • Custom colors: pick Accent, Health, XP or Name, then click a color or type any color as #RRGGBB in the hex field. Auto goes back to the theme color. The small square on a button shows that it has a custom color.

Moving the HUD

Moving the HUD with the mouse

After Move with mouse, drag the HUD with the left mouse button. The faint lines split the screen into thirds: where you drop the HUD decides its anchor, and the rest is stored as offset. That way the HUD stays in the same corner when you resize the window or change the GUI scale.

  • Arrow keys move it by 1 pixel, with Shift by 10.
  • Reset offset puts it back on its anchor.
  • Enter, Esc or Done go back to the editor.

Examples

Compact style on the right Icons side by side above the hotbar
Compact, anchor right Icons, side by side, bottom center
Simple frame with custom colors No frame, 80 % size, top center
Simple frame, 50 % opacity, Amber theme, green health, yellow names, no XP bar, 3 shown No frame, 80 %, side by side, top center, no numbers

Config file

All of this is saved in config/loyalcompanions-client.json on your computer, so it works on every server. You can also edit the file while the game is closed; the _help entry at the top explains every setting. Values outside the range are clamped, unknown values fall back to the default.
