Injuries and Revival

Companions do not die from one bad hit. They bleed, they can get infected, and when their health runs out they are wounded – and you get a chance to save them.

Companions take no fall damage and cannot be hurt by you.

Bleeding

Every hit of 3 damage or more can make a companion bleed (the harder the hit, the likelier, up to 42 %).

Tier Caused by hits of Lasts Damage
1 3 – 6 40 s 0.5 every 2 s
2 7 – 13 55 s 1 every 2 s
3 14 or more 70 s 1.5 every 2 s

You get a chat message when your companion starts bleeding. The HUD shows a red drop with one to three dots for the tier.

Infection

A wound that bleeds for a long time can get infected (green icon). An infection lasts a minute, deals 0.5 damage every 6 seconds and halves the healing of bandages.

Wounded

When its health would drop to zero, your companion is wounded instead (yellow icon): it lies still, cannot be hurt any further and stops bleeding. You have 30 seconds to save it with a Large Companion Bandage. Saved companions get back up with a quarter of their health.

If nobody helps in time, the companion falls: you receive its Companion Totem and its team slot becomes free. With revival switched off in the Configuration, the companion is lost instead.

Bandages

Use a bandage on your companion, or right-click the air to use it on your selected one.

Bandage Heals Bleeding Infection Wounded
Small Small 6 HP stops tier 1, weakens higher tiers – –
Medium Medium 14 HP stops up to tier 2 halves the time left –
Large Large 30 HP stops every tier cures saves

The Companion Shrine

Companion Shrine

Craft it from gold, diamonds, a Capture Charm and smooth stone (recipe) and right-click it. The shrine is two blocks tall, so it needs a free block above it.

Companion Shrine with a totem and a heart

What lies in the shrine floats above its pedestals: the totem on one side, the heart on the other. During the ritual both rise and spin faster. The empty slots of the shrine show faint pictures of the item that belongs there.

Reviving a fallen companion

  1. Put the Companion Totem into the left slot.
  2. Put a Companion Heart into the right slot. Iron Golems drop them (40 % chance).
  3. Press Begin ritual. After five seconds your companion stands in front of the shrine again with half its health.

It takes a free team slot. If your team is full or too many companions are out, it goes into a stored slot or the archive instead. The shrine cannot be broken while a ritual is running and cannot be moved by pistons. Its contents are saved with the world; when you break it (top or bottom half) it drops itself and everything in it.

Packing a companion

Pack companion turns your selected companion into a Companion Totem – with its level, items and everything else. Put that totem back in the shrine and start the ritual to wake it up again; packed companions do not need a heart. Totems can be stored in chests or given to other players, who become the new owner when they wake it.
