Team and Archive

Binding a companion

Use a Capture Charm on a friendly animal. Almost every mob that is not a monster works, including animals from other mods. The server owner can allow or forbid single mobs, see Configuration.

The new companion goes to the first free team slot. If the team is full, it goes straight into the archive. If both are full, binding fails and the charm is kept.

Team slots

Your team has 3 slots by default (up to 6, configurable). Each slot is in one of these states:

State Meaning
Out with you The companion is in the world and loaded near you.
Waiting far away The companion is in the world but not loaded, e.g. you left it waiting at home or it is in another dimension.
Stored The companion is safely stored in the slot and not in the world.
Free Bind a new companion to fill it.

By default one companion can be out at a time. The server owner can allow more (max_active_companions). If a newly bound companion cannot come out because of that limit, it is stored in its slot right away.

The selected companion (highlighted card) is the one the whistle calls, candies and bandages go to, and V opens.

Summon, store, recall

All of these work from the overview (J):

  • Summon – a stored companion appears next to you. Two seconds cooldown between summons.
  • Store – the companion goes back into its slot.
  • Recall – the companion comes to you and stays out.

Store and recall work from any distance and dimension. If the companion is in an unloaded chunk, the mod loads that spot for a moment, fetches it and lets the chunk unload again. The chat shows "Fetching your companion from far away..." while that happens.

Wounded companions cannot be stored or recalled until you treat them.

The command wheel also has Come here (recall all) and Store all, and the whistle calls your selected companion with sneak + right-click.

The archive

The archive holds companions you do not need in your team right now – 12 places by default (up to 54). Archived companions keep everything: level, skills, items, name, appearance and statistics.

  • Archive on a stored or active team card moves that companion into the archive.
  • Click a companion in the archive, then To slot X moves it into your selected team slot. If that slot already holds a stored companion, the two swap places.
  • Release removes it for good. This needs a Companion Release Token in your inventory and a second click to confirm.

Releasing a companion

Use a Companion Release Token on your companion in the world, or release it from the archive. A released companion becomes a normal animal again and drops everything it carried. This cannot be undone.

What is kept

A stored, archived or packed companion keeps everything about the animal: its variant and colors, saddle and armor, name, level, skills, rarity, injuries, statistics, settings and its whole inventory with every enchantment, name and durability. When it comes back it is the same animal with a new spot in the world.

Giving a companion away

Pack it into a Companion Totem at the Companion Shrine. The totem is a normal item you can store in a chest or hand to a friend. Whoever wakes it up at a shrine becomes its new owner.

Safety

  • Each team slot remembers the exact companion that belongs to it. If an old copy of a companion ever turns up again (for example after a world backup was partly restored), it is removed when it loads, so companions cannot be duplicated.
  • Every minute the mod keeps a backup of each companion that is out. If a companion disappears without a trace (deleted by another mod or a broken chunk), Recall or Store restores it from that backup.
