Crops and Farming

Crops do not grow the same all year. Each crop has a list of seasons it grows in and a best season in which it grows a little faster.

Growth speed per season

On top of that:

• In a crop's best season, it grows faster.
• The temperature of the day and the current weather event speed growth up or slow it down.
• A crop that is not allowed to grow in the current season simply stops. It keeps its growth stage and continues once its season comes back.

Summer: keep your fields wet

In summer, most crops need farmland that is wet enough. By default the farmland needs a moisture level of at least 5 of 7, which means water close to the field. Build your farms next to water or bring water to them before summer starts.

Crops that are not planted on farmland (for example sugar cane or cactus) are not affected by this rule.

Optionally, crops on dry farmland can even lose growth stages in summer (summer_dry_crops_can_wither, off by default).

No vanilla crop grows in winter by default. Harvest before winter starts.

Crops that have no profile at all (for example crops from other mods that are not listed) behave like wheat: best in spring, growing in spring, summer and autumn, needing water in summer and resting in winter.

Crops from other mods

Crops from other mods can follow the seasons too. You can add or change crops in the file config/seasonsystem-crops.json. How this works is explained on the page Crop Profiles.

Turning it off

Set crop_rules_enabled=false in the Configuration#crops and all crops grow like in vanilla again, all year round.
