Seasons and Calendar
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 🌱 Spring | Mild temperatures, frequent rain, fast crop growth, grass and flowers grow back, snow and ice melt |
| ☀ Summer | Hot and mostly dry, crops need wet farmland, flowers slowly dry out, heat can weaken players |
| 🍂 Autumn | Cooler, some rain, colourful leaves, leaf litter on the ground, slower crop growth |
| ❄ Winter | Cold, snowfall, snow layers on the ground, frozen water, most crops stop growing |
The seasons follow each other in this order. After Winter a new year starts with Spring.
A season lasts 28 Minecraft days by default, so one year has 112 days. One Minecraft day is 20 minutes of real time, which makes one season about 9 hours and 20 minutes of play.
The length can be changed with days_per_season in the Configuration (1 to 365 days).
Changing the season length on an existing world moves the current date. The world keeps counting its total days, and the date is calculated from that total with the new length.
The option calendar_time_source decides how days are counted:
| Value | Behaviour |
|---|---|
world_age (default) |
Counts the days the server actually ran. Sleeping and the /time command do not skip days. |
day_cycle |
Follows the day/night cycle. Sleeping through the night or using /time also moves the calendar forward. |
Choose day_cycle if you want the calendar to match the sun and moon exactly. Choose world_age if you want seasons to always take the same amount of play time, no matter how often players sleep.
You can switch between the two on an existing world. The calendar continues from its current date and does not jump.
All seasonal world effects (weather, snow, ice, temperature effects, crop rules, plant changes) happen in the Overworld only. The Nether and the End are not affected. The calendar itself is the same everywhere, so you can still see the date in the HUD while you are in another dimension.
- Look at the HUD in the top left corner.
- Press K to open the Season Journal, which also shows how many days are left until the next season.
- Type
/seasonin chat.
A notification appears when a new season starts, and a short summary line is shown above the hotbar at the start of every day.
Operators can set the date with /season set <season> <day> [year] or jump to a total day count with /season setday <days>. See Commands.
