Integrations

Wild Creatures works on its own. The mods on this page are optional: when one of them is installed, Wild Creatures detects it at startup and turns the matching feature on. Nothing needs to be configured.

Expanded Foodsystem

Expanded Foodsystem adds cooking. With it installed, Wild Creatures registers seven raw meats and creatures drop them on death: Raw Shark Meat, Raw Crab Meat, Raw Mussel Meat, Raw Crocodile Meat, Raw Duck Meat, Raw Snake Meat and Raw Wild Meat. The full list is on Items and Drops.

Without Expanded Foodsystem these items are not registered at all, so they never show up as unknown items.

Loyal Companions

Loyal Companions lets you keep animals as companions. Wild Creatures registers these creatures through the public Loyal Companions API, each with its own companion food:

Creature Companion food
Deer Wheat, Carrot, Apple, Sweet Berries
Duck Wheat Seeds, Beetroot Seeds, Melon Seeds, Pumpkin Seeds
Owl Chicken, Rabbit, Cod, Salmon
Raccoon Sweet Berries, Apple, Egg, Cod
Otter Cod, Salmon, Tropical Fish

All other Wild Creatures (predators like the shark, bear or crocodile, but also the crab, butterfly, meerkat, eagle, firefly, flamingo and beaver) are put on the Loyal Companions blacklist, so they cannot be captured. Raccoons and otters can also be tamed without Loyal Companions, see Taming.

For mod authors: the connection uses three calls of the Loyal Companions API: one that allows an entity type as a companion, one that sets its companion food, and one that blacklists an entity type. Wild Creatures looks the API up at runtime, so it has no hard dependency on Loyal Companions, and a missing or older API version is simply skipped.

Season System

Season System adds seasons. With it installed, butterflies spawn on all land in the overworld during spring and summer, and not at all in autumn and winter. Without it, butterflies stay in plains, sunflower plains, meadows and flower forests all year.

Xaero's Minimap and World Map

With Xaero's Minimap or Xaero's World Map, every creature shows its own icon on the map, made from the head of its spawn egg. The icons are part of the resource pack inside the mod jar, so a resource pack can replace them.

Biomes O' Plenty

With Biomes O' Plenty, creatures also spawn in its biomes. Wild Creatures sorts the Biomes O' Plenty biomes into eleven groups, stored as biome tags:

wildcreatures:biomesoplenty/forest, plains, wetland, jungle, savanna, desert, beach, mountain, flower_land, aquatic and tropical_water.

For modpack makers: these are normal biome tags. A data pack can add biomes from any mod to them (or remove biomes) to control where Wild Creatures spawn. They are only read while Biomes O' Plenty is installed.

Other biome mods

The vanilla spawn table uses vanilla biome tags where possible (all forests, all beaches, all oceans). Biome mods that add their biomes to these vanilla tags get Wild Creatures automatically.
