BBS door
A BBS Door is a kind of metaphorical reference to an external program invoked by a bulletin board system: running the door, the BBS would create a "dropfile", a quick crib sheet of pertinent details about the current BBS caller, then pass the notes to the door program as if to say "here's everything you need to know about the person running you: what their name is, their access level, and how many minutes they have remaining in this session." Traditionally, most online games played on BBSes were doors, as well as many additional programs that enhanced the BBS experience in different ways such as user polls, time banks, oneliner walls and different kinds of "fun" or interesting databases (from classified ads to BBS lists to horoscopes. I mean, in a wider sense, virtually every part of a BBS is just various kinds of databases also!)
