Happy Fetus Records

Starting circa 1992 through 1995, Happy Fetus Records was a tongue-in-cheek area code 604 music-[tracking] crew headed by DJ Moses Risin', SysOp of [The Pelvis of Elvis] BBS and Masterplan Productions DJ in his offline life, that followed a practice of what could be described as rapid prototyping of 4-channel songs in [FastTracker 2]. Monday nights Moses would host music-making get-togethers at his Kitsilano apartment that served as warm-ups for midnight visits to a nearby all-night Denny's, bridged by brief but terrifying drag races. They were a rare, seemingly contradictory breed of nerds conspicuously active in nightlife.

Moses' colleagues in HFR included Spaceman Spiff (SysOp of the PD [Double Exposure] BBS that ran the [NeuralNet] echomail network), Applesauce, wOnkO tHe sAnE, and Moses' brother DJ Swooop. (There were also non-music-tracking "members" of the crew who just wore the affil for social reasons, including The Scottish Prick and Darklock.) Other more peripheral area music-trackers that ran in their circles online, if not necessarily at Denny's, included Hero Bob (aka Freaq), NinjaDude (aka [Onyx]), [The Judge], and Acidfrog.

By '95 Moses was putting effort into working with more long-distance composers of rave musics to elevate his community, and HFR went on the back burner in favour of this new crew, designated [SPiCE], yielding positive response from tracker music reviewers and newsletters. HFR briefly had a homepage hosted by the short-lived local Mortimer ISP at www.mortimer.com/hfr

In 2015 the New Media Group distributed a Happy Fetus Records collection, even though in the '90s we never officially worked on any projects together, putting much if not all of their back catalogue (many tracks seemingly lost media in the 21st century) back into circulation.
