[Shareware] with important functionality gated behind proof of payment -- basically, giving the idea of what the program is intended to do, without the ability to use it fully as intended. In some cases you get time-limited use of the full program, other times you can do whatever you like in the software sandbox but not eg. save your work, making it all moot. Crippleware is a tempting target for [cracker]s when they know the full product is included if they expect to be able to outsmart the on-board registration code algorithm.
