Influential author of fiction, seminal writer in the [cyberpunk] movement, basically coining the phrase literarily with his award-winning 1984 novel [Neuromancer], lending a great deal of prescience, flavour and slang to underground online milieus. Longtime Vancouver resident, some of Mist's founding members attended school with his son. Being online in [cyberspace] in the early '90s fit different when you were doing it up the street from William Gibson, whose nearby presence cast a long shadow over our underground computer activities. Cthulu and Coyote have a story to share about Gibson's interest in the writings of Beat author William S. Burroughs.
