Early on in the Mist revival, Cthulu ran afowl of some limitations in the use of Tasmaniac/ACiD's traditional Spoon II application to inject [SAUCE] metadata into computer art files -- notably, since the '90s, the SAUCE standard had been updated (notably including the eg. "Legacy mode"), but Spoon II never was followed up with a Spoon III, so SAUCing new artworks with old metadata would sometimes cause them to be displayed not as intended. The intended modern solution that worked for everyone else was simply to edit SAUCE records using a modern ANSI editor such as recent versions of PabloDraw or Moebius, but this was a slog when dealing with large quantities of files (as Spoon II would auto-populate records based on user specifications, streamlining the task considerably) and when dealing with non-ANSI, non-ASCII art formatted files such as bitmaps and music nominally supported by the SAUCE standard. In practical terms, this was a problem that applied to literally no one in the world other than Cthulu assembling vast Mistigris revival artpacks containing lots of non-ANSI files. [andyh] generously offered a powerful commandline tool, Textmode.rs (Textmode art interpretor, library, and tools targeting native code execution, the web, and WASI) to get the job done in a businesslike way on an industrial scale.
