Lab: 69 Integrate Datadog with OCI
Datadog is a third-party (not OCI-native) observability and monitoring platform that unifies metrics, logs, and traces from OCI alongside AWS, Azure, on-prem, and 750+ other technologies — all in one dashboard. It's available on Oracle Cloud Marketplace as an official Oracle-partnered integration.
Important distinction: Datadog isn't built into OCI — it's an external SaaS platform you connect to your OCI tenancy via Service Connector Hub, which forwards your OCI metrics and logs out to Datadog.
Unified multi-cloud view — monitor OCI Compute, load balancers, databases, and more alongside AWS/Azure/on-prem in a single pane of glass
Auto-discovery — automatically detects new OCI resources and compartments, no manual reconfiguration as infrastructure grows
Deep agent-based metrics — installing the Datadog Agent on Compute instances unlocks sub-second CPU/memory/disk metrics, process-level visibility, and distributed tracing
Specialized dashboards — GPU monitoring (for AI/ML workloads), Database Monitoring, Cloud Cost Management, Cloud SIEM
If you only use OCI Monitoring/Logging Analytics, it works great — but only within OCI. The moment your company runs a hybrid or multi-cloud setup (which most enterprises do), you end up with separate dashboards for OCI, AWS, Azure, and on-prem, making root-cause correlation across services slow and manual during an incident. Datadog exists specifically to close that gap.
