🌍 Difference Between Region, AD, and FD (Simple & Clear)

Think of cloud infrastructure like a city → buildings → rooms:

🌍 1. Region

Region = A geographic area (city/country)

👉 Example: India (Mumbai), USA (Ashburn)

It is a large area where Oracle has data centers Each region is independent Used for disaster recovery and serving users nearby

🧠 Simple: 👉 Region = Location on the map.

🏢 2. Availability Domain (AD)

AD = A data center inside a region

👉 One region can have 1 or more ADs

Each AD is a separate building They don’t fail together Used for high availability

🧠 Simple: 👉 AD = Separate buildings in the same city

🧱 3. Fault Domain (FD)

FD = A group of hardware inside an AD

👉 Each AD has multiple FDs (usually 3)

Protects from hardware failure Like separate power/network groups

🧠 Simple: 👉 FD = Different rooms inside a building

🧠 Easy Visualization (Hierarchy)

Region (City)

AD (Building)

FD (Room)

🎯 Final One-Line Summary:

👉 Region = Where

👉 AD= Separate data centers for safety

👉 FD= Internal protection from hardware failures
