Topic

A Topic is like a communication channel or message hub.

Topic = place where messages are sent

You publish messages to a Topic

Topic distributes messages to all subscribers

Notification

A Notification is an alert message sent to users when something happens.

Simple Analogy Think of WhatsApp Broadcast Group:

Group = Topic

Members= Subscriptions

Message sent = Notification

👉 You send once → everyone receives

Event/Alarm → Topic → Subscriptions → Notification delivered

⚙️ Real OCI Example

Scenario: Server Monitoring

Create Topic → Server-Alerts

Add subscriptions:

Dev team email

Admin phone

Create Alarm:

CPU > 80%

👉 When CPU crosses threshold:

Alarm triggers

Message goes to Topic

Topic sends alerts to all subscribers

Summary Topic is a message channel, and Notifications are messages delivered to subscribers when events or alarms publish to that topic.
