Lab:02 Users & Groups
👤 User
A User is an individual person or identity who can log in and use cloud resources.
👉 Example:
Ram (Developer) Priya (Admin)
Individual accounts that access OCI resources Have credentials (password, API keys) Assigned to groups for permission management
Steps to Create User in OCI:
Step:1.
Step.2.
Step.3.
Step.4.
Step.5.
👥 Group
A Group is a collection of users with similar roles.
👉 Instead of giving permissions to each user, you assign them to a group. Collections of users with similar responsibilities Make permission management easier Example: "DatabaseAdmins", "Developers", "Finance"
🧠 Simple Real-Life Analogy
Think of a company:
Employees = Users 👤 Departments (HR, IT, Finance) = Groups 👥
👉 You don’t give access individually—you give it to the department.
Graphical Representation:
How They Work Together
Create Users (Ram, Priya) Create Groups (Developers, Admins) Add users to groups Assign permissions to groups (not users) 🔐 Why Use Groups?
✔️ Easier management
✔️ Better security
✔️ Scalable (add/remove users easily)
👉 Example:
Add Ram to "Developers" → he automatically gets all developer access ⚡ Quick Example Group: Developers Users: Ram, John
Steps to Create Group in OCI:
Step:1.
Step.2.
Step.3.
Step.4.
Step.5.
Policy:
Assign user to group:
Step:1.
Step.2.

Step.3.
Developers can access Dev Compartment
👉 Both users now get access without separate rules.
🧾 One-Line Summary
👉 User = person, Group = collection of users with shared permissions in OCI
