Blender Link

The Blender link pulls a map's geometry into Blender, lets you edit it there, and pushes the changed placements and shapes straight back into the mapgeo. The link tracks what actually changed rather than re-sending the map, so a push applies in seconds.

Installing the add-on

The bridge add-on ships with ReyEngine. Install it from the editor:

  • Tools ▸ Install Blender add-on…, or Edit ▸ Preferences… ▸ Blender.

The page lists every Blender version found on this PC (Blender's per-version configuration under %AppData%\Blender Foundation\Blender), says whether the add-on is installed there and whether it is the current copy, and installs it per version or for all. When that version's blender.exe can be found under Program Files, the add-on is switched on straight away; otherwise the file is copied and you tick ReyEngine Bridge under Blender's Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Add-ons by hand.

The add-on appears in Blender's 3D viewport sidebar (N panel) under a ReyEngine tab.

Using the link

  1. Open a project with a map in ReyEngine and choose Tools ▸ Start Blender Link…. The status line under it reads Listening on 127.0.0.1:47800 — the port is configurable in the add-on's preferences on Blender's side.
  2. In Blender, Pull Map From ReyEngine brings the map's meshes in, named as the mapgeo names them, with their pivots.
  3. Move, rotate and scale objects, or edit their geometry.
  4. Push Placements To ReyEngine sends transforms back; Push Shapes To ReyEngine sends changed geometry. ReyEngine applies them to the open map, and the viewport shows the result immediately.
  5. Tools ▸ Stop Blender Link closes the connection.

Nothing is written to the game; as everywhere else, the changes live in the project until you export.

What the link does not do

The link carries geometry and placements, not materials or textures — those are edited in ReyEngine (see Materials). A mesh created from scratch in Blender is better brought in through Add Mesh, where the material question is asked properly.
