Tutorial First Project
Goal: go from nothing to a visibly changed Summoner's Rift in your own game, in about 15 minutes. You need: League of Legends installed, and a mod loader (LTK Manager or cslol-manager). If words like WAD or override are new, skim Start Here first.
Download the .msi from the Releases page and run it. It installs for your Windows user only and needs no administrator rights. Windows SmartScreen may ask once, because the installer is not code-signed yet.
Details and the portable .zip alternative: Getting Started.
The first start opens the setup wizard. For this tutorial:
-
League of Legends install — usually found by itself. If not, point it at your game folder (the install root, the
Gamefolder orGame/DATA/FINALall work). - File-name hashes — download them. Without them files show up as numbers instead of names.
- Audio decoder and preview map — optional; you can skip both for now.
You can run the wizard again at any time from Help ▸ Setup Wizard….
- File ▸ New Project…
- Template: choose Map.
- Platform: choose LIVE (your normal client).
-
WAD Files: type
Map11in the search box and tick the Summoner's Rift map WAD. Whatever you tick is always available read-only; the next step decides what is copied out for editing. - Content: keep the suggested categories. Checked categories become editable files in your project; the rest stays readable from the game.
- Create: give the project a Name and a Location, then Create Project.
The project opens and the map loads into the 3D viewport. Orbit with the left mouse button, pan with Shift + left button, zoom with the wheel. A tour of the viewport is in Maps and Viewport.
The quickest change you will actually notice in game is a colour change of the whole map:
- Tools ▸ Recolor Textures…
- Click All above the texture list to select every map texture.
- Under PRESET, click Night. The PREVIEW shows the original and the recoloured version side by side.
- Click Apply to selected and wait until it finishes.
Every recoloured texture is written into your project. The game files are untouched. Restore originals in the same window undoes it. The full tour of this window is in Recolor a map.
- File ▸ Save Project.
- Project ▸ Send to LTK Manager. This creates the mod in LTK Manager, or updates it if you sent it before. Using cslol-manager instead? Use Project ▸ Export .fantome… and import that file there.
- In your mod loader, enable the mod and start the game through it.
- Start a Practice Tool game on Summoner's Rift. The map should be in its night colours.
Run Tools ▸ Mod Health ▸ Validate Project Bins. It checks your files the way the game will load them and lists anything that would break. For a recolour it should come back clean.
- The map looks normal in game. Check the mod is enabled in the loader and that the loader was running when the game started. A loader that is still using an old copy of the mod looks exactly like "my change did nothing" — send or export again.
- The texture list in Recolor Textures is empty. A map has to be open in the viewport; reopen the project and wait for the map to load.
- Files show as long hex numbers. Hashes are missing: Tools ▸ Hashes & Names ▸ Sync Hashes (CommunityDragon).
