Tutorial Place a Prop
Goal: put a decoration — a creature, a statue, an animated prop — onto a map so that it really appears in game, optionally only after a set time. You need: a map project with the map open in the viewport, as in Your first project.
A prop is scenery: it draws and animates, and nothing in game can target it. Tools ▸ Add prop to map… lists every character the map's own package already carries, such as critters, decorations and board pieces, and places one of them.
By default the prop is written as a client-side prop, the form Riot uses for its own decorations like the ducks on Summoner's Rift. The game client creates these itself, so they appear in your game. The alternative, a character placement, is created by the game's server from Riot's own data, and a mod never reaches the server. That is why props placed that way do not appear.
The prop is placed where the gizmo is. Select something near the spot where the prop should stand, such as a particle, a sound or another prop, and the gizmo appears there. With nothing selected, the prop lands at the map centre. You can move it precisely afterwards either way.
- Tools ▸ Add prop to map…
- Search characters — type part of a name.
- Under SKIN AND IDLE, pick the Skin and the Idle animation it should play.
- Leave Client-side prop ticked.
- Optional: Appear after — seconds of game time before the prop shows up.
60makes it appear at 1:00.0means it is always there.
Click Add at the gizmo. The project has to be saved first. ReyEngine asks if it is not. The placement is written into the map's bin at once. The map reloads and the new prop is selected.
With the prop selected, use the gizmo bar: Move, Rotate, Scale, with Snap if you want round numbers. The Object tab of the inspector shows the prop. Its Appear after time can be changed there too.
When it looks right, click Save Map Content Edits in the inspector.
- File ▸ Save Project.
- Project ▸ Send to LTK Manager (or Project ▸ Export .fantome…).
- Enable the mod and start a Practice Tool game on that map. If you set Appear after, wait for that game time.
A prop placed before v0.4.10 is a character placement and does not appear in game. Select it, and the prop inspector offers Convert to client-side prop. It keeps the position, rotation, skin and idle. It refuses what it cannot carry over faithfully and tells you why. That covers turrets, inhibitors, the nexus and camps (gameplay units), and Riot's own placements (the server spawns those anyway).
- Only characters the map's package already carries are listed. To bring in a character from elsewhere, use Tools ▸ Import character folder… first. See Workshop and Add Mesh.
- A client-side prop needs a numbered skin (
Skins/SkinN). If a skin cannot be placed that way, the window says so. Unticking Client-side prop places it as a character instead, which will not show in game. - A prop is scenery only: nothing in game can target it.
- Workshop and Add Mesh — add Riot's meshes, materials and particles to a map.
- Lighting and Baking — make new content sit in the map's light.
