Tutorial: Recolor a map

Goal: give a whole map a new look — a night Rift, a frozen Abyss, your own colour grade — and ship it as a mod. You need: a map project with the map open in the viewport. If you do not have one yet, do steps 1–3 of Your first project.

What Recolor Textures does

Tools ▸ Recolor Textures… adjusts many textures at once: the map's surfaces, the placed mobs and animated props, and the baked lightmaps (the pre-computed light and shadow painted onto the map). Changing them together is what keeps a recolour looking like one map instead of a patchwork.

Every result is re-derived from Riot's original texture, never from your last attempt. You can change your mind as often as you like without the image getting worse each time.

1. Choose the textures

The list on the left, MAP, MOB / PROP & LIGHTMAP TEXTURES, holds every texture the open map uses.

  • All / None select everything currently shown or nothing.
  • Filter by name or folder… narrows the list, for example to grass, water or a folder name. All then selects only what the filter leaves.
  • A mark on a texture means it already has a saved recolour in this project.

For a whole-map look, select All with an empty filter.

2. Pick a starting look

Under PRESET, try Night, Sunset, Frozen, Infernal, Faded or Punchy. The PREVIEW shows the selected texture as Original and Recoloured. The preview is a downscaled copy; the written file keeps its full resolution, pixel format and mip levels.

3. Adjust it

  • COLOUR — rotate every colour around the colour wheel (this is what turns a green map blue) and change saturation (0 is grey, 1 leaves it alone).
  • LEVELS — make darks darker or lights lighter.
  • TINT — push everything toward one colour.
  • COLOUR GRADE (.cube) — load a .cube lookup table, the same files Photoshop, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve export. It is applied after the sliders, and has its own mix amount.
  • The overall strength blends the whole adjustment back toward the original, so a strong look can be eased off in one move.

Reset all sliders starts over.

4. Apply

Click Apply to selected. ReyEngine writes each recoloured texture into your project. A large map takes a moment; Cancel stops it.

To undo, select the textures and click Restore originals. That deletes the project's recoloured copies, so the game loads Riot's textures again.

5. Test and ship

  1. File ▸ Save Project.
  2. Project ▸ Send to LTK Manager (or Project ▸ Export .fantome… for cslol-manager).
  3. Enable the mod in your loader and start a Practice Tool game on that map.

Tips

  • Recolour in passes. Filter to water, apply a look, then filter to the ground and apply another. Each texture remembers its own settings.
  • Keep the lightmaps in the selection for night looks. Recolouring only the surfaces leaves bright baked light painted on a dark map.
  • Share your grade, not your textures. A .cube file is tiny and works on any map.
