Getting started

Install and update

Extract the release ZIP so the path ends in Interface/AddOns/CompanionsForever/CompanionsForever.toc. There is one addon folder. Do not put it inside another folder named after the ZIP, and do not rename it to match the longer display title.

Enable Companions Forever: Pet Battles & Adventures on your character. Restart WoW if it does not recognize a newly installed addon; use /reload after an ordinary update. Keep any unrelated addon named ForeverCompanions unchanged. Updates do not require deleting your saved data.

Use /cfpets or /companionsforever. The older /companions and /fcp aliases still work, but /cf is no longer ours because other addons use it.

Your first ten minutes

  1. Buy a Traveler's Adoption Crate under Crates → Pet. The first living companion equips automatically.
  2. Open Camp. Clicking another portrait previews that pet; Equip chooses the one that travels and fights with you.
  3. Check health, food, and energy. The supplies at the bottom belong to the addon.
  4. Open Tower. Pick a style and press the crossed-swords Fight icon.
  5. Use the herb/heal control when needed. Hover it to see the available action and cost.
  6. After victory, collect any waiting rewards and check the next floor. The next floor is selected automatically; its battle does not begin automatically.

What persists?

Your pets, gear, tokens, collection discoveries, trainer progress, and unlocked features are saved. The initial tokens and supplies are a one-time starter bundle, not a reward for reloading. A pet's discovery and that individual pet are separate: the collection can remember a species you no longer own.

No pets left?

An entirely empty stable can use the free recovery adoption option in Crates → Pet. It gives one of three Common starter companions. A stable containing dead-pet memorials is not empty. Recovery pets cannot be traded, and their retirement value comes from training rather than repeatedly claiming a free level-1 pet.

Death is permanent for that individual. The collection entry remains. Check retirement before dismissing a memorial or another pet.
