Talents and Retirement
Your pet gains XP through battles and eligible world kills. Your trainer gains XP by retiring pets. Trainer levels unlock talent points and raise the maximum level your pets can reach.
The trainer caps at level 40, with 40 normal talent points. There are more ranks available than points, so you choose a build rather than fill every node.

Your trainer progress raises the pet-level cap. Check Talents for your current cap and the next milestone.
The cap follows trainer level, not a particular branch. Pet XP is not banked past the cap. Early trainer levels arrive faster; later ones take more retirement XP.
Select node ranks, review the pending plan, and press Confirm. Clicking a node alone does not spend the point. Fill the preceding node in a branch before advancing. A 25-token respec refunds the normal talent allocation without removing earned trainer XP or reducing the level cap.
Endurance supports survival and passive income; Expertise supports attack, retirement, and rewards; Exploration supports speed and world loot; Care supports energy, food efficiency, and healing. Small bonuses add up, but they do not replace equipment or attentive healing.
Hover a talent node for its current effect and rank limit. Use those tooltips to compare the choices available to you.
Use the Retire button in Camp or choose a pet from the scrollable stable in Talents. You can retire at any level, alive or dead, outside a tower battle. The selected pet receives a glow, and the trainer XP bar previews the gain.
The breakdown shows the level contribution, rarity bonus, milestone bonus, relevant trainer bonus, and any death penalty. A dead pet gives 50% less retirement XP. Higher levels and rarity increase value; the displayed total is the number to trust. Recovery pets have special rules so repeatedly claiming them is not a free XP source.
Retirement permanently removes that individual. Its equipped items return to the bag, and its collection discovery remains. Make room for returned equipment. A locked pet cannot be retired until unlocked in Camp. At the maximum trainer level, retirement is unavailable.
Your WoW character's race gives a small passive bonus. Hover its racial icon for the effect. This belongs to the trainer, not the pet's species.
