Productivity and study tools

Manage time, tasks, and study materials without notifications or gamification. Beta 4 has tool windows for timers, a calculator, unit converter, flashcards, and more. Everything except start-up is untested by hand, so check the test checklist before you rely on a feature.

These tools help with time, tasks, and study. They need no account and work offline. They follow the brand rules: no streaks, scores, badges, or nagging. Nothing notifies you unless you set a reminder or a timer notice yourself.

Timers and calculator

Feature Status
Countdown, stopwatch, and focus timers Built. Three kinds with configurable work and break lengths.
Timer names Built. Give each timer a name.
Timer display Built. A running timer shows as a small chip in the title bar or in a tool window.
Windows notification Built. Optional at the end of each timer.
Calculator pop-out Built. The calculator opens in its own small window.
Unit converter Built. Convert between units of measurement.
Reference tables Built. Store and access reference information.

Timers count by the clock, so they stay correct across sleep. There are no streaks, totals, or session history.

Study features

Feature Status
Flashcards Built. Question and answer, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, and image occlusion cards.
Card review Built. Spaced repetition scheduling.
Exam countdown Built. Count down to an exam date.
Timetable Built. Create and share a timetable.
Reminders and due dates Built. Set reminders and due dates on notes.
Citation support Built. Add citations to notes.
  • A scientific calculator with expression entry, history, memory keys, degrees and radians, constants, and unit conversion.
  • A Graphing tab uses the function grapher. Type functions, zoom, pan, and trace points.
  • "Insert into page" adds a result as text, or a graph as a block that you can edit later.
  • Results match smart tables and Quick math, because all three share one engine.
  • History stays on your device and can be cleared.

Upcoming list

Planned for Phase 8.

  • Give any checkbox or tagged line a due date, typed in plain words such as "Fri 5 PM", "tomorrow", or "Dec 3". The parsed date shows beside the text, so a wrong guess is easy to spot.
  • The Upcoming pane lists items from all notebooks under Overdue, Today, This week, and Later. Items check off in place.
  • A week view and a month view show the same items on a calendar.
  • Repeating to-dos, such as "every weekday" or "monthly on the 1st", create the next one when you check one off. Missed repeats never pile up.
  • A class timetable shows today's classes and the next one. Choosing a class opens its section and creates a dated page.
  • Windows reminders are optional for each item. Locked sections stay out while locked.

Tool windows

Planned for Phase 10. Small windows hold the timers, calculator, Upcoming list, flashcard review, dictionary, unit converter, and reference tables. Each opens from the command palette or a shortcut you set. A pin keeps it above other windows, and each remembers its size and place.

Tool What it does
Exam countdown Shows the days left to an exam as a number, not an alarm
Dictionary and thesaurus Works offline, with English data included and other languages as optional downloads
Unit converter Converts length, area, volume, mass, temperature, speed, time, pressure, energy, power, angle, and data size
Reference tables A periodic table, physical constants, metric prefixes, and Greek letters

Planned for Phase 11

  • Calendar files (.ics) import classes, exam dates, and due dates into the timetable and Upcoming.
  • A citation helper keeps sources for each notebook and inserts citations in common styles, such as Chicago. Looking up a source by its digital object identifier (DOI) or International Standard Book Number (ISBN) runs only when you ask.
