Installing, updating and saves
Why is the version on PS5, Xbox or Mac behind the latest release?
On PS5, Xbox and Mac, the mod is downloaded through the in-game mod manager, and every update there has to pass Larian's approval before it goes live. Larian asks that only mods with no future updates planned be labelled for console curation, because every update has to go back through console testing, so updates are a lower priority in the curation queue than new mods. When Larian is told that an update is out, emergency or not, they try to get it back through testing; otherwise they pick updates up when they can. This mod keeps getting new content, so this wait can't be avoided. The latest update is already in the queue, but there is no date for its testing yet, and it can take months. Until then you stay on the last approved version, so content added in a newer release, such as a new subclass, is not in your game yet. Check the mod version shown in the in-game mod manager. See Why updates on PS5, Xbox and Mac can take months to arrive. (#1566)
Can I update the mod in the middle of a campaign?
Passives, boosts and spells are recorded in your save when a character gains them, so a character can keep what an older version gave them. After an update that changes a large number of features, a save made before it may no longer work. Back up your save before updating. Bug reports and questions about in-game behavior are only accepted from a campaign created on the current mod version.
Can I remove the mod from an existing save?
No. Once a campaign has been played with this mod, the mod cannot be removed from it. (#1393)
Where are the patch notes?
There is no separate changelog. Every change is listed in the commit history. (#197, #1302)
I played the old DnD2024 (version 3) mod. Where did its classes go?
Version 4 was rebuilt from scratch, so content from version 3 is being rebuilt rather than carried over. A campaign started on version 3 is not supported on version 4, so start a new one. (#167, #635)
Compatibility and scope
Can I use this mod with other content mods?
No. This mod rewrites class progressions and spell lists wholesale, so any mod that also edits progressions or spell lists, such as class and subclass mods or spell list expanders, overwrites what this mod depends on. Changing the load order does not fix this; you have to choose one or the other. See Please don't link other mods in issues and discussions. (#1065, #1206)
Will the mod support levels 13 to 20?
No. The mod is built for the base game's 12 levels and is not compatible with mods that raise the level cap or add level 7+ spells. (#931, #1046)
Why doesn't the mod use Script Extender?
Script Extender only runs on PC, so a mod that depends on it cannot be played on Xbox or PS5. Keeping the mod playable on every platform is worth the few rules that could be done more exactly with it. (#1055)
Will Unearthed Arcana content be added?
Only once it has been officially published or definitively dropped. See UA Features (Class, Subclass, etc.).
Character creation and levelling
I can't find the subclasses, or a specific subclass is missing.
In this mod, every subclass is chosen at level 3, so no subclass is offered at level 1 or 2. If you are offered a subclass at level 1 or 2, another mod is overwriting that class's progression. If you are not using other content mods and only a specific subclass is missing, your version is behind the latest release: on PS5, Xbox and Mac, a newly added subclass only appears once its release has passed Larian's approval, and no one knows when that will be. See Why updates on PS5, Xbox and Mac can take months to arrive. (#330, #493, #1206, #1566)
Why did I get lots of Cleric, Druid or Wizard spells I didn't pick?
You have the Magic Initiate feat, usually from your background, and those are the spells it lets you choose from. Select the spells you want from your hotbar as if you were about to cast them: the first two cantrips and the first level 1 spell you select become your Magic Initiate spells. (#260, #283, #349)
My game crashes when I respec a character.
A respec rebuilds the character from the class and race progressions as they are now. If those changed after the character was created, for example when a race was split into subraces, the respec can crash. If the same crash also happens in a new campaign on the latest version, report it as a bug. (#636; see also Dhampir subraces)
Gameplay
Where are my Hit Dice?
Healing on a Short Rest comes from spending Hit Point Dice. They are listed in your Spellbook; if they are missing from your hotbar, add them back from there. (#638, #1495)
Why can't my character use this spell scroll?
Spell scrolls are restricted by class and level. A scroll can only be used by classes whose spell list includes the spell, and your character must be high enough level to cast a spell of that level. Each scroll's tooltip says who can use it. (#1178)
Why doesn't Booming Blade work with Extra Attack?
Booming Blade and other cantrips such as True Strike are cast with the Magic action, and Extra Attack only applies when you take the Attack action. Casting a cantrip in place of one of your attacks is the War Magic feature, which these subclasses have: College of Valor (Bard), Circle of the Unbroken (Druid), Eldritch Knight (Fighter), Warrior of the Mystic Arts (Monk), Heroic Sorcery (Sorcerer), Bladesinger (Wizard), Spellslinger (Gunslinger) and Architect of Ruin (Illrigger).
