Soaring rewards judgment long before it rewards heroics. FLSC’s strongest safety tool is a culture where people can slow down, ask, challenge respectfully, and stop an operation without embarrassment.
- Brief threats, not only the plan.
- Use checklists and positive confirmation. Memory is not a system.
- Separate legal from wise. Personal and club margins may be more conservative.
- Protect against continuation bias. A long drive does not improve weather.
- Report weak signals. Small anomalies are learning opportunities.
- Debrief behavior and conditions, not personalities.
- Say it plainly: “Stop,” “Hold,” or “I’m not comfortable with…”
- Make the system safe.
- Name the uncertainty: configuration, traffic, weather, communication, equipment, or fatigue.
- Resolve with the right authority/source.
- Restart from a known point—or end the operation.
Monitor heat, hydration, medication effects, fatigue, distraction, schedule pressure, and role overload. Use current club reporting channels and the safety forms.
