Custom Prompts
Everything Polygluttony tells the AI is in a prompt you can read and change on the Prompts page (Ctrl+4). Most people never need to. It's there for when you want a house style, a different register, or stricter rules.

| Group | Prompts | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Translation | Chinese → English, Generic (any pair) | Translating every line. Chinese → English is used for that pair; every other pair uses Generic. |
| Tones | Standard, Xianxia, Wuxia, Comedic, Funny | The style text added to the translation prompt. See Tones. |
| Glossary | Find names, Tidy up (one per category), Look up names online, Import from translated episodes | Building and improving the glossary. Each is named after the step or action that uses it. |
| Verify | Verify | The AI spot-check after translating |
Some prompts have placeholders that Polygluttony fills in before sending. They're shown as chips above the editor: green with ✓ when present, amber when a required one is missing. Hover a chip to see what it's replaced with; click it to insert it at the cursor.
| Prompt | Placeholder | Filled with |

Placeholders work in all-caps or all-lowercase. Save stays disabled while a required one is missing.
- Edit the text and press Save (or Ctrl+S). A changed prompt is marked edited, in the list and above the editor.
- Discard edits throws away what you haven't saved. If you pick another prompt or leave the page with unsaved edits, Polygluttony asks first.
-
Load from file… puts the text of a
.txt,.mdor.promptfile (UTF-8, up to 1 MB) in the editor. Press Save to keep it. - Restore default goes back to the built-in prompt straight away. The message that follows has an Undo button for about 10 seconds, which brings your version back. Save or discard unsaved edits first.
- Changes apply from the next run, to every folder.
Tip
Leave the parts about line markers alone. The translation prompts explain the numbered markers Polygluttony puts on every line. If the model stops copying them back, every batch fails its check and gets sent again.
Changed prompts are plain text files in the prompts folder inside Polygluttony's data folder (see Privacy & your data), for example prompts/translate.zh-en.txt or prompts/tones/xianxia.txt. Prompts you haven't changed aren't stored there, so they update with new versions of the app.
Your changed prompts travel with Export setup… on the Models page. See Moving to another computer.
