Tones
The tone decides how the dialogue sounds: plain and natural, or steeped in a genre's style. Same line, five deliveries:
| Tone | 你算什么东西 |
|---|---|
| Standard | "Who do you think you are?" |
| Xianxia | "What standing have you to address this one?" |
| Wuxia | "And just who are you to challenge me?" |
| Comedic | "Uh… and you are?" |
| Funny | "Bro, you're nobody." |
The examples below come from the instructions each tone gives the AI. They show the direction a tone pushes in; the exact wording you get depends on your model and the scene.
Accurate, natural subtitle English: semi-formal, contractions in casual dialogue ("don't", "can't"), none in narration. Grand speeches stay grand without going stiff, and short beats long when the meaning survives. Nothing is added. The safe default for anything you plan to release.
| Instead of | Standard gives you |
|---|---|
| "I will tear up the sky" | "I shall rend the heavens" |
Cultivation fantasy. Characters climb realms of power, so the translation uses the genre's established English: Stages and Layers, sects, Fellow Daoist, and Qi, Dao and Dantian kept as they are. Elders and formal scenes get a classical register ("bestow", "pay respects", "shall"); young characters stay casual.
| Source | Plain translation | Xianxia |
|---|---|---|
| 本座不会让你逃走 | "I won't let you escape." | "This Seat shall not let you escape." |
| 修道之路漫漫 | "The road to power is long." | "The path of the Dao is long." |
| 老夫不过一介散修 | "I'm just an old man, don't mind me." | "This old man is merely a rogue cultivator." |
| 我要拜见陈师母 | "I must greet Aunt Chen." | "This disciple must pay respects to Master's Wife Chen." |
Martial-arts world. Power comes from training and internal energy, not cultivation realms, so there are no Stages or Layers. The jianghu and the wulin keep their names, and forms of address follow the martial world: Master, Senior Brother, Young Hero.
| Source | Plain translation | Wuxia |
|---|---|---|
| 他是江湖中的大侠 | "He's a hero in the criminal world." | "He is a great hero of the jianghu." |
| 本座不会让你逃走 | "I won't let you escape." | "This Seat shall not let you escape." |
| 老夫不过一介武夫 | "I'm just an old man, don't mind me." | "This old man is merely a martial artist." |
| — | "She ran away really fast using magic." | "She fled using her lightfoot technique." |
For shows that are meant to be funny. Jokes, puns and references are localised so they land in English, instead of being translated word for word. Names, plot and each joke's target stay intact.
- A Chinese pun becomes an English pun that's actually funny.
- A cultural reference becomes a Western one that hits the same way.
- Stiff, formal dialogue becomes natural banter, when the scene is played for laughs.
Played for laughs, in the style of an abridged parody. Accuracy comes second: any line that isn't plot-critical can become a joke. Names and plot reveals are kept, so you can still follow the story. For fun, not for release.
| Instead of | Funny might give you |
|---|---|
| "I will defeat you!" | "I'm about to make you regret your life choices." |
| A villain's monologue | The villain mocking their own clichés |
| A dramatic pause | "…awkward silence… anyone else hungry?" |
The tone is a folder setting, on the Episodes page. Click Edit next to the settings line ("Chinese → English · World type: Xianxia · Tone: Xianxia") and pick a Tone. The settings start open the first time you open a folder.

- A new folder starts with the tone that matches its world type: Xianxia → Xianxia, Wuxia → Wuxia, anything else → Standard.
- Changing the world type changes the tone with it, unless you've already picked a tone yourself.
- The tone applies to every episode in the run. While a run is going in that folder, the settings wait until it's done.
- Resume only carries on from lines made with the same tone. Change the tone and a stopped episode starts again from the top.
Each tone is a short piece of text added to the translation prompt. Rewrite any of them under Tones on the Prompts page. Your version is used from the next run, for every folder.
