Secret blocks draw their disguises through the Fabric Rendering API. Fabric's own renderer has it built in. Sodium replaces that renderer, and Indium adds the API back.
- With Sodium, install Indium too.
- Without Indium, Sodium cannot draw secret blocks, and they would be invisible.
- So the game refuses to start with Sodium and no Indium. It stops before the window opens, with a message that says Secret Blocks needs Indium and links to it.
- To fix it, install Indium for your Minecraft version, or remove Sodium.
- Works with Sodium 0.4.4 and Indium 1.0.9 (1.19.2), and Sodium 0.5.13 and Indium 1.0.36 (1.20.1).
- Without Sodium you need nothing extra.
- Secret blocks draw normally with Embeddium. Nothing else is needed.
- Tested with Embeddium 0.3.31 on NeoForge 47.1.106, and on Forge 47.4.26 alongside Sinytra Connector.
- Secret blocks draw normally under a shader pack (Iris on Fabric and Quilt, Oculus on NeoForge and Forge). Their disguises look like the rest of the world.
- Iris runs on Sodium, so you need Indium with it too.
- The Builder's Goggles still work under a shader pack. Each secret block shows as a light glass ghost instead of a faded copy of its disguise. The light-blue outline and the real block inside look the same as without a pack.
- On Minecraft 1.20.1 with Sodium, the Builder's Goggles show the same glass ghosts even without a shader pack.
Secret blocks work with connected-texture mods and their resource packs. A secret block disguised as glass joins up with real glass and with other secret glass around it, as real glass would, so a secret block in a glass wall shows no border. Other blocks a pack connects, bookshelves for one, join up the same way.
Tested with:
| Minecraft | Loader | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| 1.20.1 | Fabric, Quilt | Continuity 3.0.0 |
| 1.20.1 | NeoForge | Fusion 1.3.16 (with a Fusion resource pack, such as Fusion Connected Glass) |
| 1.20.1 | Forge | Continuity 3.0.0 through Sinytra Connector, except One Way Glass (below) |
| 1.19.2 | Fabric | Continuity 2.0.x |
-
Not tested yet: Fusion on Forge (the same download as NeoForge, so it is expected to work the same way), and connected textures on Minecraft 1.20.
-
One Way Glass joins up too. With one of these mods installed, the faces between One Way Glass blocks are hidden, so a wall of them looks like one pane from the glass side.
-
Faces turned with the Rotator Probe, or showing another side of their block, do not join up.
-
Fusion reads only Fusion resource packs. A Continuity or OptiFine pack connects nothing under Fusion, not even real glass.
-
Continuity on Forge (through Sinytra Connector): a secret block's face joins up only when the block's bottom face shows the same block, so One Way Glass does not join up there (the faces between One Way Glass blocks are still hidden). Fusion is the connected-texture mod to try on Forge.
-
On 1.19.2 with a Continuity version other than 2.0.x, secret blocks still join up with each other and with real blocks around them, but real blocks may not join up toward a secret block, so it can show a border on that side.
- Secret Blocks works alongside Carpet (tested with Carpet 1.4.84 for 1.19.2 and 1.4.112 for 1.20.1). Pistons move secret blocks with their disguises, as they do without it.
- With Carpet's
movableBlockEntitiesrule turned on, a pushed secret block loses its disguise. This is a known issue.
- Install Secret Blocks on the server and on every player's game, with the download for that loader.
- The server picks every disguise and sends it to each player who can see the block. Everyone sees the same look.
- Disguises stay the same after a player leaves and joins again, and after the server restarts.
- Changes made with the Switch Probe, Rotator Probe or Camouflage Wand are made on the server, so every player sees them.
- The Camouflage Wand works only for players in creative mode and for operators.
- The Secret Goggles and Builder's Goggles change only what their wearer sees.
- Secret blocks hide things from sight only. Every player's game knows which blocks are secret and what they really are. The F3 debug screen, for example, names the block you are looking at.
- Worlds made with Secret Blocks 1.2.0 or 2.0.0 load in later versions, on any loader.
- Secret blocks keep their disguises, and Secret Chests keep their contents.
- In 1.2.0, hoppers and droppers could push items into plain secret blocks, where they were lost. Those items drop when you break the block.
