Doors and Trapdoors

Four secret blocks work like vanilla doors and trapdoors, but wear a disguise: the Secret Door, the Secret Iron Door, the Secret Trapdoor and the Secret Iron Trapdoor.

How they look

  • Each one is the same thin panel as a vanilla door or trapdoor.
  • Every side of the panel wears the disguise, so it shows no wood, iron, handle or window.
  • It swings open and shut like the vanilla one, and keeps its disguise open or closed.

Placing them and their disguise

  • Like every secret block, each one copies the block you click to place it. See How disguises work.
  • A door copies the floor if you click the floor. To make a door look like a wall, click the side of a wall block that faces into the doorway: the door goes into the doorway and takes the wall's look.
  • Both halves of a door get the same disguise when you place it.
  • The Switch Probe changes one side of one block at a time, so on a door it changes only the half you use it on.

Secret Door

Crafting

Dummy Block + any wooden door, in any slots. This makes 1 Secret Door. See Crafting.

How it works

  • Use it to open and close it, like a wooden door.
  • Redstone opens and closes it too, like a vanilla door.
  • It plays the wooden door sounds when it opens and closes.
  • It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like the block it looks like, and it always drops itself when mined. See How disguises work.
  • A piston breaks it, as it breaks a vanilla door.

Differences from vanilla

  • It looks like its disguise, not like a wooden door.
  • It mines like its disguise, not like a wooden door.
  • Mobs do not treat it as a wooden door: villagers cannot open it and zombies cannot break it down. A door that villagers walk through would give the room away.
  • The Builder's Goggles show it as an oak door. The Camouflage Wand turns it into an oak door, or back into the door it was made from with the wand.

Secret Iron Door

Crafting

Dummy Block + iron door, in any slots. This makes 1 Secret Iron Door.

How it works

  • Using it by hand does nothing.
  • Only redstone opens it: a button, lever, pressure plate or powered redstone next to it. It closes when the power stops. See Buttons and Levers, Pressure Plates and Secret Redstone.
  • It plays the iron door sounds.
  • It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like the block it looks like, and it always drops itself when mined, even by hand. See How disguises work.
  • A piston breaks it, as it breaks a vanilla iron door.

Differences from vanilla

  • It looks like its disguise, not like an iron door.
  • It mines like its disguise. A vanilla iron door is slow to mine and drops nothing without a pickaxe; this one always drops itself when mined, whatever the tool.

The Builder's Goggles show it as an iron door, and the Camouflage Wand turns it into one and back.

Crafting

Dummy Block + any wooden trapdoor, in any slots. This makes 1 Secret Trapdoor.

How it works

  • Use it to open and close it, like a wooden trapdoor.
  • Redstone opens and closes it too, like a vanilla trapdoor.
  • It sits in the top or bottom half of its space by where you click, like a vanilla trapdoor.
  • It plays the wooden trapdoor sounds when it opens and closes.
  • It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like the block it looks like, and it always drops itself when mined. See How disguises work.
  • Pistons push and pull it, as they do a vanilla trapdoor, and its disguise moves with it.

Differences from vanilla

  • It looks like its disguise, not like a wooden trapdoor.
  • It mines like its disguise, not like a wooden trapdoor.
  • The Builder's Goggles show it as an oak trapdoor. The Camouflage Wand turns it into an oak trapdoor, or back into the trapdoor it was made from with the wand.

Secret Iron Trapdoor

Crafting

Dummy Block + iron trapdoor, in any slots. This makes 1 Secret Iron Trapdoor.

How it works

  • Using it by hand does nothing. Only redstone opens it, and it closes when the power stops.
  • It plays the iron trapdoor sounds.
  • It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like the block it looks like, and it always drops itself when mined, even by hand. See How disguises work.
  • Pistons push and pull it, as they do a vanilla iron trapdoor, and its disguise moves with it.

Differences from vanilla

  • It looks like its disguise, not like an iron trapdoor.
  • It mines like its disguise. A vanilla iron trapdoor is slow to mine and drops nothing without a pickaxe; this one always drops itself when mined, whatever the tool.

The Builder's Goggles show it as an iron trapdoor, and the Camouflage Wand turns it into one and back.

Hidden hatches

A trapdoor in the top half of a floor hole closes level with the floor, so from above it looks like part of the floor.

  1. Leave a hole one block wide in the floor.
  2. Click the side of a floor block next to the hole, in the upper half of that side.
  3. The trapdoor goes into the top half of the hole and copies that floor block.
  4. Closed, its top is level with the floor around it and wears the floor's look.

From below it is a thin panel. Use a Secret Iron Trapdoor with a hidden button, lever or pressure plate for a hatch that only redstone opens.

With the Builder's Goggles

While you wear the Builder's Goggles, each door and trapdoor shows its real vanilla block inside its faded disguise, with an outline around its panel. A door's two halves are outlined as one panel, and the outline follows the door when it opens.
