Containers
Five secret blocks hold items: the Secret Chest, the Secret Trapped Chest, the Secret Dispenser, the Secret Dropper and the Secret Hopper. Each is a full block that wears a disguise on every face, so it looks like the wall or floor around it. See How disguises work for how a block picks its disguise.
Hoppers, droppers and comparators work with these five as they do with the vanilla blocks. No other secret block holds items: hoppers and droppers treat them like stone.

A 27-slot chest hidden in a full disguised block.
Shapeless, makes 1. See Crafting.

| Dummy Block | 1 |
| Chest | 1 |
- Use it (right-click) to open its screen: 27 slots in three rows of nine, above your inventory, like a single chest.
- The screen's title is "Secret Chest", or the chest's name if it has one.
- The screen closes if you move more than 8 blocks away or the chest is broken, as with a vanilla chest.
- Hoppers fill it and empty it, and droppers push into it, as with a vanilla chest.
- A comparator reads how full it is, as with a vanilla chest.
- A Secret Sculk Sensor or a vanilla one hears it open and close, like any chest.
- Spectators can look inside, as with a vanilla chest.
- Pistons cannot move it, like a vanilla chest.
- Like a vanilla chest, it does not pass redstone power through itself.
- If an explosion breaks it, it drops itself only sometimes (less often in a bigger blast), as a vanilla chest does. Its contents always spill out.
- Rename a Secret Chest in an anvil and place it: the chest keeps the name and shows it as the screen's title.
- Break a named chest and it drops a Secret Chest with the same name.
- A chest can be locked like any vanilla container. A locked chest opens only for a player holding an item with the lock's name. Anyone else sees "… is locked!" and hears the locked sound.
Commands: lock the chest at a position with /data merge block <x> <y> <z> {Lock:"Secret Key"}, then rename any item "Secret Key" in an anvil to use as the key.
- Secret Chests never join into a double chest.
- Two Secret Chests side by side stay two separate 27-slot chests. The same goes for a Secret Chest beside a Secret Trapped Chest or a vanilla chest.
- For more space, place more chests and open each one on its own.
- It is drawn as its disguise on every side. It has no lid and no opening or closing animation.
- It makes no sound when opened or closed.
- It has no facing, and it cannot be waterlogged.
- It never joins into a double chest.
- Opening it does not count toward the "Chests Opened" statistic.
- Opening it does not anger piglins.
- It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like its disguise, not like a chest. See How disguises work.
- It opens even with a solid block or a sitting cat on top, where a vanilla chest stays shut. A chest hidden in a wall always has a block above it.
A Secret Chest that sends a redstone signal while someone looks inside.
Shapeless, makes 1. See Crafting.
| Ingredient | Count |
|---|---|
| Dummy Block | 1 |
| Trapped chest | 1 |
- Everything the Secret Chest does, it does too: the same 27 slots, names, locks and silent opening. Its screen is titled "Secret Trapped Chest".
- While it is open, it gives a redstone signal equal to the number of players looking inside, up to 15.
- The signal goes out on every side as weak power. The block directly below it is strongly powered, so that block powers things around it, as with a vanilla trapped chest.
- The signal stops when everyone has closed it, walked or been moved away, or left the game, and when the chest is broken.
- Spectators who look inside do not count.
- A comparator reads its contents, not its viewers, as with a vanilla trapped chest.
- It never joins into a double chest.
- Redstone dust next to it bends toward it, as it does toward a vanilla trapped chest. Dust does not bend toward the block it is disguised as.
The same as the Secret Chest's: no lid or sound, no facing or waterlogging, never a double chest, no "Chests Opened" statistic, no angry piglins, and it sounds and mines like its disguise.
A vanilla dispenser hidden in a full disguised block.
Shapeless, makes 1. See Crafting.
| Ingredient | Count |
|---|---|
| Dummy Block | 1 |
| Dispenser | 1 |
- It has 9 slots and opens the vanilla 3×3 dispenser screen, titled "Secret Dispenser".
- Each time it is powered, it dispenses one item out of its front, exactly like a vanilla dispenser: arrows are shot, other items are used or dropped as vanilla does. Holding the signal on does not dispense again.
- When placed it faces you, up, down or to the side, like a vanilla dispenser.
- Every face shows the disguise, so you cannot see where its front is. The Builder's Goggles show it as a vanilla dispenser.
- A comparator reads how full it is.
- It can be named in an anvil and locked like a vanilla dispenser. A named one keeps its name when broken.
- Pistons cannot move it, like a vanilla dispenser.
- It is drawn as its disguise on every side, with no front opening.
- It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like its disguise, and it always drops itself when mined, whatever the tool. A vanilla dispenser drops nothing without a pickaxe.
A vanilla dropper hidden in a full disguised block.
Shapeless, makes 1. See Crafting.
| Ingredient | Count |
|---|---|
| Dummy Block | 1 |
| Dropper | 1 |
- It has 9 slots and opens the vanilla 3×3 dropper screen, titled "Secret Dropper".
- Each time it is powered, it drops one item out of its front, with the dropper's click and smoke. Arrows are dropped, not shot. Empty, it gives the empty click.
- If its front faces a container, it puts the item inside instead of dropping it. This works with vanilla containers and with the Secret Chest, Secret Hopper and Secret Dropper.
- If that container is full, the item stays in the dropper.
- No item is ever lost or copied: every pulse moves exactly one item.
- When placed it faces you, up, down or to the side, like a vanilla dropper. The Builder's Goggles show which way.
- A comparator reads how full it is.
- It can be named in an anvil and locked like a vanilla dropper. A named one keeps its name when broken.
- Pistons cannot move it, like a vanilla dropper.
- It is drawn as its disguise on every side, with no front opening.
- It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like its disguise, and it always drops itself when mined, whatever the tool. A vanilla dropper drops nothing without a pickaxe.
A vanilla hopper built as a full disguised block instead of a funnel.
Shapeless, makes 1. See Crafting.
| Ingredient | Count |
|---|---|
| Dummy Block | 1 |
| Hopper | 1 |
- It has 5 slots and opens the vanilla hopper screen, titled "Secret Hopper".
- It pulls items from the container above it.
- It picks up items lying on its top.
- Hoppers and droppers pointing into it fill it.
- It pushes items into the container it points at, down or to the side.
- It moves one item every 8 game ticks (2.5 items a second), the same speed as a vanilla hopper. In a chain with vanilla hoppers it keeps the same timing.
- While powered by redstone it is locked and moves nothing, like a vanilla hopper.
- When placed it points into the block you click, like a vanilla hopper: click the top of a block and it points down, click a side and it points sideways. Click the underside of a block and it points down.
- Every face shows the disguise, so you cannot see where it points. The Builder's Goggles show it as a vanilla hopper.
- A comparator reads how full it is.
- It can be named in an anvil and locked like a vanilla hopper. A named one keeps its name when broken.
- Pistons cannot move it, like a vanilla hopper.
- Like a vanilla hopper, it does not pass redstone power through itself.
- It sounds, mines and stands up to explosions like its disguise, and it always drops itself when mined, whatever the tool. See How disguises work.
- It is a full block, not a funnel. You can stand on it, and it shows its disguise on every side.
- It sounds and mines like its disguise, not like metal. A vanilla hopper drops nothing without a pickaxe; this one always drops itself when mined.
- A broken Secret Chest, Secret Trapped Chest, Secret Dispenser, Secret Dropper or Secret Hopper drops all its contents once, along with itself, like the vanilla blocks.
- A named one drops an item with the same name.
- If someone has it open, their screen closes. A Secret Trapped Chest's signal stops.
- The Camouflage Wand can turn any of these into its vanilla block and back without dropping anything: the items stay in their slots, and the name and lock stay too.
