Getting Started

What you'll need

  • BGAdaptor hardware
  • Your Beogram CD/Beogram/Beocord deck, wired to the adaptor
  • A connected Bang & Olufsen music system (ASE/Mozart) on the same network
  • A phone, tablet, or computer to perform the setup

Wiring the deck

  1. Deck to adaptor: connect the deck's Data Link cable to the adaptor's DIN socket.

  2. Adaptor to B&O product: connect your deck to the Bang & Olufsen product using one of the following inputs:

    • Line-in (analogue): run a 3.5mm stereo jack cable from the adaptor straight into your B&O product's Line-in input. (diagram)
    • Optical (digital): Beogram CD's digital output is coaxial, so you'll need a coaxial-to-optical converter in between, then an optical cable into your B&O product. (diagram)

Whichever you use, you'll select the matching Input source (Line-In or Optical) later in setup — see below.

  3. Power: the adaptor needs a 5V USB supply — either a regular USB power adapter, or, if your B&O product has a spare USB port, power it from there instead.

First boot

  1. Power on the adaptor. On first boot it starts its own WiFi network so you can configure it:
    • Network name: BGAdaptor
    • Password: password
  2. Connect to that network from your phone or laptop. A setup page should open automatically (if not, open a browser and go to 192.168.4.1).
  3. Pick your home WiFi network and enter its password. The adaptor reboots onto your network.
  4. Open http://beogram.local/ in a browser (or find its IP address on your router) to reach the adaptor's Control page.

Note

The BGAdaptor network is only there for initial setup — it disappears once the adaptor is connected to your WiFi, and reappears automatically if the adaptor ever can't reach that network again.

Setting the type and linking to your B&O product

From the Control page:

  1. Press Show next to Settings.
  2. In the Type section, select what's connected: CD player, Record player (turntable), or Tape deck. This affects which buttons are shown on the webpage and Beoremote Halo, and which command-sets are used for controlling the deck. Optionally, you can rename the player. This changes the title on the webpage and Halo player controls.
  3. Continue to the Product section. Press Start product scan to scan for nearby B&O products and pick yours. Alternatively, enter the IP address manually (you will need to select the platform your product is based on, too).
    • Using product discovery is recommended: it also remembers the product's serial number, so if your product's IP address ever changes (e.g. after a router restart), the adaptor finds it again automatically. Typing an IP in manually doesn't get this automatic recovery.
  4. Press Connect to confirm.
  5. Set the Input source — the input on your B&O product that this deck is connected to (either Line-In or Optical). This tells the adaptor which input to monitor and activate.

What's next

Once linked, playing the deck should switch your B&O product to the right source and start playing automatically. From here, everything else is optional — pick whichever of these you want:
