Codex

The Codex is a brutal, curated endgame challenge unlocked at Level 80. It pits you against 5 hand-picked Chapters, each containing 7 increasingly difficult waves of combat. Between certain waves you are offered powerful Boons that can dramatically swing the run — but most come with a downside.

How to Enter the Codex

  1. Use the command /codex
  2. You must have at least 1 Antique Tome
  3. Each run is completely self-contained (no carry-over from previous runs except your permanent Tomes)

Antique Tomes are rare drops from high-level content (especially Ascent milestones and Uber bosses).

Run Structure

  • 5 Chapters chosen randomly each run (no two runs are ever the same)
  • Each Chapter has 7 waves
    • Waves 1–7 get progressively harder
    • Wave 7 is always a boss
  • After Wave 3 and Wave 6 you enter Respite — choose 1 of 2 randomly offered Boons
  • You can Retreat at any time, but you get no Codex Fragments on retreat or defeat

Soulreap (Infernal weapon passive) still restores you to full HP after every wave clear.

Chapters & Signature Modifiers

Every chapter applies a powerful Signature Modifier that affects the entire chapter. These are the core difficulty spikes.

Chapter Signature Modifier Effect
The Iron Horde Weakened -30% ATK
Blighted Wastes Decaying -30% Max HP
The Hollow Court Exposed Ward disabled at start of each combat
Unending Hunger Depleted -40% DEF
Celestial Tribunal Humbled -20% ATK and -20% DEF
The Void Rift Unravelled Ward disabled + -20% DEF
Storm's Eye Blinded -40% Crit Chance
The Ashen Field Scorched -30% DEF and -20% ATK
Midnight Spire Cursed -40% Max HP
Crimson Tide Frenzied -30% DEF and -30% Crit Chance
The Abyssal Gate Abyss-Tainted -40% ATK and -40% DEF
Shattered Realm Broken Ward disabled + -30% DEF
The Final Theorem Absolute Zero -50% ATK and -40% Crit Chance
Apex Convergence Convergence -30% ATK, -30% DEF, Ward disabled
The Eternal Archive Erased -50% ATK and -50% DEF

Some corrupted helmet essences (Aphrodite) can grant ward immunity against signature effects that disable ward.

Respite Boons

At the end of Wave 3 and Wave 6 you choose one of two boons. Boons fall into two categories:

  • Per-wave boons — stay active for the rest of the run
  • One-shot boons — instant effect (heals, Max HP boost, signature nullify, etc.)

Some strong boons carry a downside (e.g. +Rarity but -ATK, or guaranteed page but -80% fragments).

You get one free reroll of the boon choices per chapter.

Codex Tomes (Permanent Progression)

Tomes are your long-term power from the Codex.

  • Start with 0 slots
  • Spend Codex Pages to unlock up to 5 slots
  • Each tome has a passive type and tier (1–5)
  • Upgrade and reroll using Fragments + Gold

Available Tome Passives:

  • Vitality (+Max HP)
  • Wrath (DEF → ATK conversion)
  • Bastion (ATK → DEF conversion)
  • Tenacity (chance to halve damage taken)
  • Bloodthirst (crit HP drain)
  • Providence (+Rarity)
  • Precision (+Crit Chance)
  • Affluence (+XP & Gold)
  • Bulwark (+PDR)
  • Resilience (+FDR)

Tomes apply their bonuses everywhere — normal combat, Ascent, Codex, etc.

Rewards

  • Codex Fragments — main currency for upgrading Tomes
  • Codex Pages — used to unlock tome slots and reroll tome types
  • XP and Gold every wave (scaled)
  • Chance for a Codex Page drop on chapter clear (~5%)
  • Perfect Run bonus (all 35 waves cleared with no deaths) = +50% Fragments + special logging

You receive no Fragments if you die or retreat.

Tips for Success

  • Ward and Max HP are life-saving — the signature modifiers hit hard.
  • Prioritize Tome upgrades early; they give permanent power.
  • Bring strong sustain (potions, partners, healing passives, Soulreap).
  • Learn which signatures you can handle and which ones to nullify with boons.
  • Test risky builds in the Dojo first.
  • Fragment-boost + Page-guarantee combos can be very strong for Tome progression.
  • High-rarity and high-FDR/PDR gear shines here.
