Companions and Partners
Idleology features two distinct ally systems: Companions and Partners. While they both provide power, they function very differently.
Companions are creature allies you obtain during normal combat. They provide strong passive stat bonuses and can generate resources for you over time.
- Randomly dropped from regular combat encounters.
- Boss Pets (stronger versions) can drop from bosses and Ascent monsters. These usually start with higher-tier passives.
Every companion has a primary passive that grants bonuses such as:
- Attack %
- Defence %
- Hit Chance
- Crit Chance
- Ward generation
- Rarity
- Flat / Percent Damage Reduction
- Special Rarity (rare)
Tiers go from 1 to 5. Higher tiers = stronger effects.
Using a Gemini Engram, you can awaken a companion. This grants them a secondary Balanced Passive of a different type. This significantly increases their value.
You can set companions as Active. While active, they will periodically bring back resources every hour:
- Gold
- Runes (Refinement, Potential, Shatter)
- Boss Keys / Fragments
- Random pieces of equipment
You can claim rewards using the companion menu. Rewards accumulate up to a cap (roughly 48 hours).
Feed companions items to gain XP. Higher-level companions provide stronger passives and better passive loot.
- Max Level: 100
- Feeding higher-quality or upgraded items gives more XP.
Companions have a dedicated long-term Mastery progression system, accessed with the ✨ Mastery button in the /companions hub (unlocks as you gain companions).
Kinship Points (KP) are the currency:
- Earned from overflow XP when leveling companions (50 overflow XP = 1 KP).
- Permanent investment (with a reset option using resources).
Three mastery branches:
| Branch | Focus | Key Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| Forager's Pack (🌿) | Loot volume & window | +Loot find chance per companion; 20% chance for extra item on rolls; extend accumulation from 48h → 72h |
| Loot Affinity (🎯) | Biased high-value loot | Choose primary focus (Gold / Runes / Keys) for heavily weighted rolls; unlock secondary focus; extra rolls on biases |
| Bonded (⚔️) | Passive power & awakening | All active companion passives +10% (or more); Elite Bond makes Gemini balanced passives +1 tier; Legend Pact for even stronger effects with 2+ actives |
Mastery effects apply automatically to active companions' hourly loot cycles and boost their combat passive contributions. This is the primary way to scale companion power and income deep into endgame.
Partners are named NPC allies recruited through a gacha system at the Partner Guild. They are more complex and powerful than companions, with active skills and dispatch capabilities.
- Pull partners using the Partner Guild system.
- Rarities: 4★, 5★, and 6★.
- Higher rarity = more skill slots.
- 6★ partners are the strongest and come with powerful Signature skills.
Partners have two categories of skills:
| Type | Max Level | Purpose | Slots (by Rarity) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combat | 10 | Effects during fights | 4★ = 1, 5★ = 2, 6★ = 3 |
| Dispatch | 5 | Improves dispatch task rewards | 4★ = 1, 5★ = 2, 6★ = 3 |
You can upgrade and reroll skills using the appropriate Partner Shards.
Partners can be sent on timed dispatch tasks. There are three types:
- Combat Dispatch — Earn gold, runes, boss keys, and special items.
- Gathering Dispatch — Automatically gather mining, fishing, and woodcutting materials.
- Boss Dispatch — Earn rare boss sigils (used for uber encounters).
Dispatch rewards accumulate over time (up to ~48 hours, extendable with certain signature skills). You can claim them whenever you want.
Some 6★ partners (like Sigmund) can even be assigned to two dispatch tasks at once.
6★ partners have unique Signature skills that are significantly stronger than regular skills:
- Combat Signatures: Powerful effects like surviving fatal blows, gaining corrupted essence buffs, or doubling damage.
- Dispatch Signatures: Extend dispatch time, double gathering rewards, increase chances of rare drops, etc.
These signature skills are a major reason to aim for 6★ partners.
Partners have classes:
- Attacker
- Tank
- Healer
- Hybrids (Vanguard, Paladin, Battlemage)
You can form Boss Parties using one Attacker, one Tank, and one Healer. These parties can tackle special high-reward boss dispatch missions.
The more you use a partner, the higher their Affinity grows. At certain milestones (25 / 50 / 75 / 100 encounters), you unlock:
- Story chapters
- Better portrait variants
Reaching 100 affinity fully unlocks a partner’s alternate portrait.
| Feature | Companions | Partners |
|---|---|---|
| Acquisition | Random combat drops | Gacha (Partner Guild) |
| Main Strength | Passive stat bonuses + loot | Active skills + Dispatch system |
| Customization | Passive rerolling + Awakening + Mastery tree | Skill upgrades + Rerolling |
| Endgame Value | Excellent (with Mastery scaling loot/passives) | Extremely high (especially 6★) |
| Complexity | Simple + Mastery choices | More complex (skills, dispatch, affinity) |
| Max Level | 100 | 100 |
- Early game: Focus on getting a few good companions active for passive income and stat bonuses.
- Mid game: Start pulling partners and building a small roster. Begin investing companion overflow XP into Mastery (Forager or Bonded branches are strong early).
- Late game: Prioritize 6★ partners with strong signature skills and good combat/dispatch synergy. Max out Companion Mastery branches for massive passive loot and stat scaling.
- Use the in-game menus to manage both systems — they have detailed views for skills, dispatch timers, affinity, and the Companion Mastery tree.
Both systems are designed to reward long-term investment and smart team building.
Your allies are just as important as your gear.
