Equipment & Upgrades
Gear is the backbone of progression in Idleology. Every piece of equipment can be upgraded in multiple ways, allowing you to specialize your character, unlock powerful passives, and push into endgame content.
There are six equipment slots:
- Weapon
- Armor
- Accessory
- Glove
- Boot
- Helmet
Most upgrades follow a similar pattern:
- Spend resources (gold + gathering materials)
- Risk failure (resources are usually consumed)
- Gain permanent power on success
- Some systems have limited attempts that can be restored with special runes
You access upgrades from the item detail screen in your inventory (/inventory → select item).
Weapons are your primary source of damage and come with several upgrade systems.
- Unlocks or upgrades a weapon passive.
- Each successful forge increases the Forge Tier.
- Failed forges still consume resources.
- Has a Forgemaxx option to repeatedly forge until you run out of resources or attempts.
- Increases the weapon’s core stats (Attack, Defence, and Rarity).
- Each success raises your Refinement Level.
- Limited refine slots. Use Refinement Runes to add more slots.
- Supports Refinemaxx (auto-refine loop) and even a rune-powered version.
- High-risk, high-reward system.
- Sacrifice another weapon that has a passive to try and transfer it onto your main weapon as a Pinnacle or Utmost passive.
- Costs Void Keys + a large amount of gold.
- Outcomes:
- 25% chance to add as Pinnacle/Utmost
- 25% chance to overwrite main passive
- 50% chance of total failure (sacrificed item is lost)
- Consumes an Infernal Engram (from Uber bosses) to apply or reroll a powerful Infernal passive.
- Very expensive in gold but extremely strong.
Armor provides defense, block, evasion, ward, and damage reduction.
- Increases PDR (Percent Damage Reduction) or FDR (Flat Damage Reduction).
- Limited temper attempts based on item level.
- Supports rune usage for boosted success rate.
- Increases the armor’s main stat (Attack or Defence).
- Raises Reinforcement Level.
- Use Shatter Runes to add more reinforcement slots when you run out.
- Grants a standard armor passive (Impregnable, Piety, Transcendence, etc.).
- Costs an Imbue Rune.
- Consumes a Celestial Engram to apply or reroll a powerful Celestial passive.
- These are some of the strongest effects in the game (Ghostreaver, Glancing Blows, Wind Dancer, Sanctity, Vow, Fortress).
These items share a similar upgrade loop.
- Levels up an existing passive or unlocks a new one.
- Accessories can go up to level 10.
- Gloves, Boots, and Helmets have lower caps (usually 5–6).
- Success rate decreases as the passive level increases.
- Use Potential Runes to boost success chance.
- Same system as armor — increases main stats and reinforcement level.
- Use Shatter Runes to add more slots.
- Applies or rerolls a Void passive on accessories.
- Very powerful effects (Entropy, Void Gaze, Eternal Hunger, etc.).
Engrams are rare items dropped from Uber bosses that let you apply extremely strong themed passives:
| Engram Type | Item Slot | Passive Theme | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infernal | Weapon | High-risk power | Uber bosses |
| Celestial | Armor | Strong defensive/utility | Uber bosses |
| Void | Accessory | Corruption-themed | Uber bosses |
A powerful late-game system that lets you transfer stats from one item to another of the same type.
- Choose a source item and a target item.
- The target’s level, main stats, and refinement/reinforcement levels are updated toward the source.
- Passives and essences on the target are preserved.
- Two versions:
- Imperfect Rune: Destroys the source item
- Perfected Rune: Keeps the source item
This is one of the best ways to optimize high-level gear.
- Refinement (Weapons): Improves Attack, Defence, and Rarity.
- Reinforcement (Armor + Scaling Gear): Improves the item’s main stat and adds a visible reinforcement level.
Both systems make your gear stronger over time and are core to long-term progression.
- Prioritize your weapon early on — Forge and Refine have the biggest impact on damage.
- Don’t be afraid to use maxx buttons once you have stable resources. They save a lot of clicking.
- Save runes for when you really need the boosted success rate (high-level enchants/tempers).
- Celestial and Infernal passives are endgame-defining. Prioritize farming Uber bosses once you can.
- Use the Dojo (
/dojo) to test how your upgrades actually perform in combat. - Check
/mod_detailsregularly to understand what passives actually do.
- Use
/inventory - Select the item you want to upgrade
- Click the relevant upgrade button (Forge, Refine, Temper, Potential, etc.)
All upgrade screens show your current resources, success rates, and remaining attempts.
Master your gear, and the rest of the game opens up.
