Plant Family
Rooted fungal and plant monsters — force-multipliers and hazards rather than chasers. This page covers the currently documented members; more plant variants exist in GMM and will be added here over time.
Source: Dungeons & Dragons
HP: 8 | Speed: immobile
A rooted fungus that never moves and never attacks — it just screams, and screaming is the whole problem.
On its own it can't hurt you at all: it has no attack and can't move. But get within range and it pulses a shriek that alerts nearby monsters to your presence and pulls them toward you, while flooding your screen with a wave of near-total darkness. Left standing, it'll keep doing it on a timer. In a dungeon full of other monsters, the smart play is to silence it fast — or avoid tripping it in the first place.
- Alerts nearby monsters — a shriek pulls allied monsters within range toward whoever set it off.
- Darkness pulse — blankets the triggering player's screen in a heavy, capped darkness for a few seconds.
- Rooted and harmless alone — never moves, never attacks; it's purely a force multiplier for everything else around it.
In small clusters in dripstone caves, the deep dark, lush caves, and dark forests.
Source: Dungeons & Dragons (Violet Fungus)
HP: 14 | Attack: 3 | Speed: immobile
A rooted purple fungus that looks a lot like its harmless cousin the Shrieker — right up until you step within reach of it.
Where the Shrieker only screams, the Violet Fungus actually fights. It can't move or chase, but anything that wanders into its short reach gets lashed on a quick cadence — and each hit withers you, stacking a temporary drain on your maximum health. The tell is that it sways when you get near, just like a Shrieker does; the difference is this one draws blood. It's cornered-in-place easy to kill once you know it's there, but nasty if you blunder past thinking it's just an alarm.
- Lashing reach — strikes anything that comes within a short distance on a quick cooldown; can't move or pursue.
- Withering hits — each lash stacks a temporary maximum-health drain on the target.
- Sways when you're near — its stalks stir whenever a player is in reach, the same tell as a Shrieker (but this one bites).
In small groups in dripstone caves, the deep dark, lush caves, and swamps.
